New TracFones Rival Competitor Choices
posted by Liz E. on October 23rd, 2014 - 7:30 am | Tracfone
TracFone has launched two new Android phones this week that rival low-end smartphones from other MVNO companies like Boost and Virgin Mobile. It might not sound like much, but coming from a company whose phones are easily five to ten years behind everyone else, this is pretty big news.
The two new phones offered are both Android and have pretty similar specs. The Alcatel Onetouch ICON Pop will sell for $149 and features a slightly larger display, a radio, and a quad-core processor. The LG Ultimate 2 will retail for $129 and has a slightly better front camera, a bigger battery and a dual-core processor. Both phones share the following specs:
- Android 4.4 KitKat
- 1.2 GHz processors (quad or dual)
- 1 GB RAM
- 4 GB memory
- SD card slot (up to 32 GB)
- 5 MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash
Both phones are available now on TracFone’s website and presumably in retail stores soon. Both phones come with triple minutes for life, which is pretty nice. It looks to me like TracFone is moving up in the world of smartphones.
