Sprint Adds WiFi Calling for Select iPhones

Sprint announced that it has pushed an update to select iPhone models that will now allow users on both prepaid and postpaid plans to make high-quality calls over Wifi networks using their own number. The software update will also fix a few other minor issues. WiFi calling is available as long as the user is connected to a suitably strong wifi hotspot, and wifi calling should not count against available minutes. This service is free and will be available automatically with the update. The wifi calling software update is available for the following phones:
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 5c
The update is also available for the iPhone 4s and iPhone 5, but these devices will not support Wifi calling due to hardware constraints. Within the prepaid segment, wifi calling is already a pretty big thing, with several companies already supporting its use, including Republic Wireless which offers a low-price plan that only allows for Wifi calling. Sprint representatives did not know when the Wifi calling capability would be available on non-Apple devices.]]>
