New HTC Desire Phone Headed to Prepaid Brands

Surprisingly, HTC’s most recent midrange phone, the HTC Desire 626s was announced and multiple prepaid companies all jumped on board at pretty much the same time. So, rather than spacing it out and announcing the device a million times, we’ll be able to cover it all in one post. Hallelujah! Before we look at which companies are carrying the HTC Desire 626 (and there are plenty) we’ll take a peek at the device itself to see if it’s even worth the time. This phone is a slight step-down from the Desire 626 that will soon be making its way to postpaid. However, the device itself isn’t all that terrible and has some mediocre specs. Here’s what you can expect under the case:
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop
  • 5 inch screen
  • Qualcomm snapdragon 201 quadcore 1.1 GHz processor
  • 16 GB memory
  • 1.5 GB RAM
  • 8 MP back camera
  • 5 MP front camera
That processor almost makes me want to classify this as an entry-level device, but I suppose it’ll all come down to how well HTC’s software works with the processor and RAM. Either way, the phone should be capable of handling most things and might be a little laggy with heavy usage but should still function just fine as HTC is a pretty decent brand. As I mentioned before, numerous companies are reportedly going to carry this phone, and I expect individual announcements to be on the way. CNet and 9to5google have both reported on the device, and here are the companies rumored to be offering this phone:
  • T-Mobile prepaid
  • Cricket Wireless
  • Sprint Prepaid
  • MetroPCS
  • Boost Mobile
  • Virgin mobile
  • TracFone
There aren’t specific prices listed for each, PhoneScoop reported that Sprint Prepaid will have the device today and that it will cost $130. Looking at the specs, that sounds about right although I am certain there will be some variation among the carriers.]]>
