Alcatel Announces Miniaturized Idol 3

Alcatel OneTouch has announced that it will soon be releasing a smaller version of its popular flagship, the OneTouch Idol 3. However, unlike many other companies that make smaller versions of popular handsets, the 4.7 inch model has pretty similar specs to its 5.5 inch predecessor. In an odd move, Alcatel is calling the new deviec the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 4.7 to differentiate from its larger counterpart. The device features many of the same things as the original including any-way orientation and dual-front facing speakers for better sound. For those of you more tech-savvy, here are the specs for the device:
  • Android Lollipop 5.0.2
  • 1.2 GHz quad-core processor (downgraded from 1.5 GHz)
  • 1.5 GB RAM (downgraded from 2 GB)
  • 16 GB memory
  • Micro SD slot (up to 32 GB) (downgraded from max 128 GB)
  • 13 MP main camera
  • 5 MP auto focus front camera (downgraded from 8 MP)
The smaller version of the Idol 3 is available unlocked for $179.99 on Alcatel’s website (although the list price is $199.99). There are not listings for which carriers can support this device, but it’s probably safe to say that the phone should be compatible with most GSM providers, looking at the bands and lists from its counterpart. It’s nice to see a smaller device released in a world where just about everyone is all about gigantic and thin devices. If you’re looking for a good small-size handset, then this doesn’t look like a bad choice. I’ve had Alcatel units before and while they don’t last super long they are usually a decent value for the price. For more information on the new 4.7 inch device, check out Alcatel’s website.]]>
