Prepaid Faceoff: Ready Mobile vs. Expo Mobile

With the massive number of prepaid MVNOs and carrier options, it’s sometimes hard to keep track of it all and even harder to compare and decide which company is the right one for you. So, every once in a while we’re going to go through and do a Face-off of two popular companies, comparing plans and services to help you better decide.

Today, we’ll look at  two MVNO’s that use Sprint and Verizon’s network, Ready Mobile and Expo Mobile. While it’s nice that Ready Mobile uses a build your own plan idea, it’s really expensive for someone who needs unlimited talk and text. And, while Expo Mobile uses a more traditional style of plans, the company is lacking value for the heavy data user.

Here’s how they compare:

Plan Prices  Price range? What is included?

Ready Mobile – Plans range from $15 – $27

Ready Mobile uses a built your own plan concept, where you select how much talk and text you’d need and then decide on data. You can view all of the options here.

Expo Mobile – Plans range from $19 – $60

Expo Mobile offers a couple different sets of plans, but the main set of monthly plans are in this range and include various amounts of data. These plans can use Sprint or Verizon devices, and you can view the full lineup here.

Unlimited Talk/Text  Is it offered? What is the lowest price?

Ready Mobile – Yes, unlimited talk and text is available for $45/month.

Expo Mobile – Yes, unlimited text is available on all plans, and unlimited talk kicks in on the $30 monthly plan.

Data Ranges  What is the most and least data available?

Ready Mobile – Data ranges from $5 for 100 MB up to $30 for unlimited data, with a couple options in between. You simply choose whichever you need and add it to your talk and text option!

Expo Mobile – Data begins on the $35 plan with 500 MB, and works up to 4 GB on the $60 plan.

Pay-As-You-Go Rates  What are the pay-as-you-go per minute rates?

Ready Mobile – N/A— no pay as you go options available.

Expo Mobile – Expo has 4 different pay as you go options, ranging from $10 – $100, and all except the $10 option are good for 120 days. Rates on the plans are $.02 per minute and message, and $.05 per per MB.

International Calling  What options are available? What does it cost?

Ready Mobile – Ready Mobile uses a third party company to handle their international calling, and you can view the details on that here.

Expo Mobile – No international features are included, but you can view international calling rates here.

Activation Fees  How much do they cost?

Ready Mobile – No activation fees.

Expo Mobile –  No activation fees.

BYOD  Can you activate your own device?

Ready Mobile – Only Sprint devices can be brought in here for activation. You can check compatibility here.

Expo Mobile – Sprint devices and Verizon phones can be activated here. The company used to accept unlocked GSM devices, when they used AT&T’s and T-Mobile’s network, but that is no longer the case. You can check compatibility here.
