With the massive number of prepaid MVNOs and carrier options, it’s sometimes hard to keep track of it all and even harder to compare and decide which company is the right one for you. So, every once in a while we’re going to go through and do a Face-off of two popular companies, comparing plans and services to help you better decide. Today, we’ll look at Boost Mobile and Ring Plus. Both of the plans run on Sprint’s network, and it’s said that the companies have the best valued plans on Sprint’s network, so I thought we’d put them head to head. Here’s how they compare:

Plan Prices  Price range? What is included?

Boost Mobile – Plans range from $30 – $50

Boost Mobile only offers two plans, one for $35/month and one for $50/month. Additionally, Boost offers family options for the unlimited data plan, where the first plan is $50/month and each additional line- on the same plan-is only $30/month. You can view the plans in detail here.

Ring Plus – Plans range from $3.99 – $29.99

Ring Plus offers a multitude of plans, most of which appeal to the low-data user. By enrolling in Member+, some discounted features become available, like tethering for $0.99 rather than $2.99. You can view the plans and features included in detail here.

Unlimited Talk/Text  Is it offered? What is the lowest price?

Boost Mobile – Yes, both the $35 and $50 plan on Boost Mobile include unlimited talk and text.

Ring Plus – Ring Plus’ cheaper plans include either 300 or 500 minutes and texts, while starting on the $9.99/month plan unlimited talk and text kick in.

Data Ranges  What is the most and least data available?

Boost Mobile – Boost Mobile’s $30 plan includes 2 GB of high speed data and unlimited data at 2G speeds, with additional GB’s available— 1 GB for $5 and 2 GB for $10. The $50 plan includes unlimited high speed data.

Ring Plus – Some amount of data is included in each plan, starting at 300 MB for $3.99/month and working up to 10 GB for $29.99/month.

Pay-As-You-Go Rates  What are the pay-as-you-go per minute rates?

Boost Mobile – N/A – no pay as you go options available.

Ring Plus – N/A – no pay as you go options available. In fact, most of Ring Plus’ plans require a “Top Up” balance that must be maintained or it will automatically charge you.

International Calling  What options are available? What does it cost?

Boost Mobile – While there are no international features included in Boost Mobile’s plans, the company does have a few international add-ons available for purchase, including a $5 card for Mexico and a $10 international card that includes more than 70 countries. Ring Plus – No international features are included in the plans, and you can view international calling rates under the plans here.

Activation Fees  How much do they cost?

Boost Mobile – Boost Mobile charges a $10 activation fee for devices that were previously owned or do not have an activation PIN still.

Ring Plus – Most plans on Ring Plus include a $5 activation fee, while the most expensive plan has a $6.75 activation fee. Typically, the activation fee can be avoided by enrolling in Member+.

BYOD  Can you activate your own device?

Boost Mobile – Boost Mobile allows unlocked Sprint devices to be brought in for activation as well as previously used Boost devices. You can check compatibility here.
