ROK Mobile Available to Everyone

Rok Mobile

California-based MVNO Rok Mobile has finally opened its service to the public.  Formerly invite-only, Rok Mobile allows users unlimited music streaming and downloading using Rok Mobile’s app and other third-party music apps like IHeartRadio and Spotify. Customers can create their own personalized music playlists and download music through Rok’s App to listen to off line but downloaded music cannot be transferred to another device or accessed once service with Rok Mobile has ended. Rok Mobile only offers one service plan, which gives unlimited talk, text, data and music streaming for $49.99 per month. Rok Mobile uses both Sprint’s CDMA network and T-Mobile’s GSM network giving customers a pretty wide range of options for BYOD. I spoke with a customer service representative at Rok Mobile and he said that for the GSM network, the data is 4G for the first 5 GB and will be throttled after that, but the CDMA network doesn’t currently have any throttling limits. I haven’t confirmed this, however. If you are wanting to purchase a new device, Rok Mobile has a limited selection available online, and most of their phones are a little costly. I didn’t see a single phone under $200, although I didn’t browse too much–their website is frustrating to work with, requiring you to go through a ridiculous amount  of pages to get to any information. I might not recommend going that route unless you are really dying for a new iPhone or Galaxy as they also allow you to bring your own qualified device. The options for BYOD are:
