New Company Offers Cheap 10 GB T-Mobile Plan

Data lovers rejoice! A new wireless reseller has been making a splash in the mobile community lately with a really great 10 GB plan price which happens to be discounted through September 20, 2015. The company, Smartel Mobile, soft launched a couple months ago and currently offers service through both T-Mobile and Verizon, with Sprint and AT&T coverage “coming soon.” The deal looks great, but it sounds like the company is a little shady.

The Good

First though, we’ll look at the deals. Smartel has the following T-Mobile plans available right now:
 • Silver ($25) – Unlimited talk and text, 1 GB
 • Gold ($45) – Unlimited talk and text, 10 GB
 • Platinum ($55) – unlimited talk, text and data
And yes, you did read that right: $45 for 10 GB which is a pretty sweet deal. And, to make it even sweeter, the company currently has a promotion that will give customers this plan for $30 for the first two months. I can’t think of anything that can beat $30 for 10 GB. Additionally, the T-Mobile plans seem to have a lot of the postpaid benefits including Music Freedom, Hotspot and roaming on partner networks. The Verizon plans, by contrast, are actually pretty standard and nothing super notable. Here’s what they look like:
 • Bronze ($28.75) – 1200 minutes, 3000 texts, 500 MB
 • Silver ($37.75) – Unlimited talk and text, 1 GB
 • Gold ($45.75) – unlimited talk and text, 2 GB
 • Platinum ($52.75) – unlimited talk and text, 3 GB
 • Diamond ($65.75) – unlimited talk and text, 5 GB
Nothing to get super excited about, as you can see.

The Bad (or Ugly, at least)

Now for the shady bit. From what it sounds like reading through various users’ experiences on HowardForums, it looks like as far as the T-Mobile plans go, Smartel is likely either buying and splitting up family plans or else reselling business plans to individuals. Which, of course, is not allowed and if that’s the case I expect T-Mobile to pull the plug on this company pretty quick, just like they did with Harbor Mobile. In fact, one user reported that he was on a shared plan with someone else, and his caller ID showed his number registered to “Go Technology M” instead of a name or something more generic. To me, all of those are definitely red flags for something being a little off. Of course, the deal is still pretty good so if you’re wanting to take the leap I strongly recommend either using a credit card or a prepaid card of some sort when you sign up, just to be safe. Personally, I’m not the kind to take that kind of risk, but if you do decide to sign up with the company, be sure to share your experiences here with us!]]>
