Saving Data Tips: Reduce Instagram Data

In the world of smartphone plans, data is probably the most precious commodity. Anyone can get unlimited talk and text, even without  a contract. But data… data is the real catch to both limited and unlimited plans. Now, you might be one of the lucky ones who has a plan that offers unlimited throttled data. If so, that’s awesome. But, for the rest of us, limiting the data that your favorite apps use is one way to help make those GB stretch just a little further. One of the, perhaps, less obvious data suckers on your phone is Instagram. After all, Instagram is made up of nothing but photos and videos–both culprits for taking up more data than you probably think. Luckily, the developers clearly have thought about this and built in a way to reduce the data. Here’s how:
  1. Launch the app
  2. From your main feed, tap Profile
  3. Tap the little gear in the top right-hand corner for settings
  4. Scroll down and tap “Cellular Data Use”
  5. Select “Use Less Data”
  6. Rejoice!
It’s worth noting that selecting this option might make the photos and videos load a little slower as basically it is telling the app to not pre-load images and videos before you get there. However, if you’re worried about high data usage this will certainly solve the problem! These steps should be the same on both Android and iOS devices. Do you have any other data-saving tips?
