Cricket Expands to Walmart

Since Cricket Wireless was purchased by AT&T last spring, there have been some major changes including the closing of Cricket’s CDMA network by the end of 2015. However, the most recent change is the expansion of Cricket Wireless prepaid services and phones in nearly 1,000 Walmart stores nationwide. Prior to AT&T’s acquisition, Cricket services were available in Walmart stores, but now customers can take advantage of the new lower priced plans and a couple of exclusive phone deals. Among the phone deals offered, Cricket customers can purchase a Samsung Galaxy Express with LTE for $100 or the Moto E for $50 plus activation. Both deals are exclusive to Walmart stores and are available now in select locations. The deals do not appear to be available online. In addition to the reintroduction of Cricket to Walmart stores, Cricket announced a few months ago that they would partner with GameStop to provide cellular services through nearly 2,800 stores nationwide–or roughly half of all GameStop brick and mortar stores in the nation. Expansions like Walmart and GameStop show that Cricket is serious about becoming a nationwide brand with more access points. In addition to Walmart and GameStop locations, Cricket itself also has around 3,000 stores around the country. According to a Cricket spokesperson who spoke to twice.com, the refreshed Walmart relationship “is meant to emphasize that Cricket’s new plans, devices and a reliable nationwide network, which gives customers more 4G LTE coverage than T-Mobile, Sprint, Boost and Metro PCS, are now available to more consumers at Walmart stores nationwide.”]]>
