GoPhone Auto Refill Program Changes

Quite a few companies have some sort of incentive for customers who sign up for auto pay or auto refill. Generally speaking, it’s a win-win. The company has a bit more of a guarantee that customers will refill on a regular business and consumers don’t have to worry about remembering to refill their plans every month. Well, it looks like AT&T has made some significant changes to its auto refill policies and program. These changes should go live on all refills scheduled after Sunday, August 16, 2015. With the old rules, customers would receive a $5 credit on the credit or debit card used for the refill a few days after the payment was processed. However, with the new rules, customers will instead get a rolling account credit with every payment. The wording on the GoPhone auto refill page is a little confusing, but I think this is how it will work:
  • The first month, you’ll pay the full amount ($45 or $60)
  • 30 days later, the $5 credit will be applied to your account
  • The subsequent refills will use the previous month’s $5 credit. This should mean customers’ cards will be charged $5 less.
While it sounds a little confusing at first, I think this is probably a smart move on AT&T’s part as it will be a lot less for the company and customers to keep track of. Customers can sign up for Auto Refill by calling AT&T GoPhone customer service (dial 611 from your GoPhone) and you only need to sign up once. In order to receive the refill bonus, customers must set the refill to at least one day before their monthly expiration, set an amount no less than $5 below the monthly amount and have a GoPhone plan of $45 or $60 dollars.
