daughter and I have both had straight talk for over a year. we had the r455, great phones, no problems. my daughter sleeps with hers. Tones are kind of quiet...but functional no problems. I recently bought the finesse just because i wanted touch screen. very hard to find but super great phone. Customer service is always very nice. they are pretty much reading a script which is ok if they can help me. I have had no problems with service or people. The carrier is still Verizon - the actual towers used. We get the same service we did with verizon. When i had verizon i had high phone bills and terrible customer service. I was actually told "oh well, thats too bad" by a rep one time when i bought an item and tried to return within 24 hrs because it didnt get any service in my area. I had to take it to the actually store i bought from and the manager told me not to call customer service anymore just to see them (they are 45 min. away) Wal mart is convenient, low price on phone plans and good phone service. I thought this review might help anyone looking and seeing a couple of negative reviews over and over from the same people. If you read these reviews you might be able to see why they are having such problems. These are electronics...not perfect...have glitches...lots of things can go wrong. When i have been in verizon stores there is a long line of people with service & phone problems, they are just paying more for phone service (the same as straight talk).

i was trying to send a text message and it would not send. would not call. nothing.

Just spoke to my daughter and I was able to hang up from being on hold.It is now 12:25.She had staightened this out yesterday with a nightmare waiting time with 3 kids in walmart on a pay phone of 4 hours.Not including 2 hours on another cell phone she had till all the min.s she had left were used to find out it is the phone she has that other people who own them are having the same problem with them.Now they are sending a new phone.Thank god.But to get this it has taken more hours than I can count and 2 people calling from 2 states.I work in a job that everything depends on excellent customer service.As you can see is what I received good customer service.As stated before we will be looking for another provider.Because waiting for service from these people is like having a job you hate to go to.

Here I am again on hold waiting for a straight talk rep to talk to me.At 10:15am I started The wait to talk to some one and decided I would write until someone answered.I'm on my third day attempting to get these people to activate my daughters phone.I live in CA and she lives in MN.She is 7 months pregnant with 3 kids and single.She is to be on total bed rest but now due to her phone not working she must get up get the kids ready,drive to my parents home to use their phone which is 30 min.s away.It is know 10:50 and no response,still listening to that horrible music that gets on your last nerve.Will I ever speak to a human???Our some on who speaks english well enough to understand you or vice versa.This is a classic example people of an over worked staff that is going through downsizing due to our econmy.But where does our money go that we pay every month???I bet these people make minimum wage our maybe a little more and work long hard hours.It's now 11:00 even got up went to the bathroom and guess what.Do i even need say.Was just looking at their star rating system looking for the zero rating but they don't have one .If any company needs one they do.Oh and whats up with the 5 star rating this company gets because I didn't see that many good comments if any not done by an employee.It is know 11:10 and I'm afraid to loose my place in line if I dare hang up and I feel like taking up as much space as they are my time.I would advise any one who has this service to do the same until they answer.Then let's see if they finaly get it and hire more people to handle all these people left on hold for hours at a time.Please every one remember WalMart is involved and has anybody stood in line for returns and money grams,it takes about the same amount of time.My daughter went and got a Walmart card so we could reload it with money from here and after an hour in line low and behold we needed to have purchased a black card whatever that is in order to put money on her account.But when she PURCHASED THE CARD FOR THAT REASON A WALMART EMPLOYEE TOLD HER THAT'S THE ONE SHE NEEDED!!!!It's now 11:25 and I'm so fucking tired of being on hold.OH OH what about their web-site ,did any one find it helpful.Please comment on that because this is where they say you get faster service.I feel like when someone finaly answers to tell them wait a minute and leaving the room for ow hour and a half do you think they would wait for us.Maybe we should all start doing this and then maybe we could at least speak to a person.11:40...That's Okay only had 50 other things I had to do on one of the two days I have off.You are not going to believe this I know look down at my "SECRET"code and it say's PMS if there ever was one that describes today that is it.Well my fingers can not take any more so I'm saying good bye.But people stay writing as long as you can take it on line THEN MAYBE THEY WILL GET IT HIRE MORE PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU LOST MY BUISNESS......

I started getting half my calls and text messages customer service cant fix there OWN NETWORK PROBLEMS.Good luck to ya.

I think this is to the ones that does not understand that once u get the phone & u add a service card on it once u receive the phone u have to finish activating it by *228 or *22890 to finish doing the "over the air programming" then once that is finished listen to the recording it should say programming successful then after that u have to make an an outgoing call to someone to finish activating the phone. I have done 6 str8 talk phones with myself & other family members activating these phones. I don't understand all these people having problems with their str8 talk phones it must be that they are not properly being activated because people do not understand how it is done to complete the activation. I have done all my activation online & I have done the over the air programming from the phone u must do that in order for the phone to work & make the initial phone call outgoing for the phone to work properly. I hope this helps others to understand the activation process better. I have not had any problems with my text or outgoing/incoming calls. If you are then u do not have enough signal that's the only reason u would not be able to make or receive calls/texts.

I regret purchasing through straight talk. The LG slider shuts off about 50% of the time when I open it to answer a call or text. Free 411 rarely uncerstands you. Customer service is a minimum 45 minute call. Forget the rep and demand a supervisor. You're only getting ~29 DAYS~ of service! On the service end date, your phone shuts off. If you activate a card early, you lose the previous airtime completely.

This phone might work for you if you never need customer service, dont mind it shutting off when you answer a call, and activate a new card only and imediately after the first shuts off completely.

Had to call the awfull customer service, on the phone 1 1/2 hours, and it took weeks and constantly calling to get my money back. Do Not reccommend to ANYONE They can not figure out that people buy gifts and ship it to a different address...

It's just yesterday ONE of my ST phones is dead (dropped calls - now no incoming or outgoing), and I waited 1.5 hours for customer (no)service and finally gave up waiting. Straight talk has been struck with a computer virus affecting accounts and numbers be aware of you phone cutting on and off and also not allowing you to send and receive text messages and calls. there is no cure for this TRUST ME. Customer service is worse than Wal MART (but at least i can understand them at Wal Mart). I had to swap to another service thanks to straight talk, and lost 187.50 in the process. DONT BUY STRAIGHT TALK. Wish they had a rating system BELOW ZERO.

We purchased the Motorola Razr with ST. It worked great for a few months. All of a sudden we couldn't make or receive calls. People would get "that phone has been disconnected" or voice mail. And the battery would die after a few hours. After spending MANY hours with the crappy Customer No Service we convinced them that we needed a new phone. We recieved the new phone and it's doing the same thing!! I think it's their software; if they don't fix it this time I'm getting my money back from the phone AND the time we have paid for. And yes, how about someone that speaks English!!

This was a very unfortunate as my previous verizon phone(service) allow me to retreive my messages by going through a rather simple process. I suspect tha st customer service was lacking knowledge per this matter. Again as everyone agrees, st customer service is horrible!

Is there any way to get a hot spot from your phone to run your laptop on the web? I can't find this info any where, I'm sure I am over looking it but any info would be a great help deciding on what I will do. thanks for any help!!!!

I only problem with straight talk, is when I have a problem, is it is very difficult trying to get the foreign person to understand and I cannot understand them. Each person will tell me something different, they are not trained. With my next phone, I will inquire if customer service is American or out sourced to another country. I talked to Jane today, she said call back in 48 hours, in the imterim, I have no service.

OMG!!!!!! I got this phone for my 12yr old daughter. The phone turnes on and off all by its self. The phone delets contacts by its self. And customer service, forget about it. We moved and i needed to get the number changed to a local number so she could send and recieve pic text. That was the most horrible experiance I have ever had. They asked me 6 times why I was changing the number. Then it took 4 different people to get the number changed, and I was on the phone with customer service for 2 hours and 12 mins. I was a customer service manager before I became disabled and boy do they need some lessions in customer service. Heaven help anyone that gets this service.....

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do NOT use this service. Customer Service is awful, and you can't change your payment options online, you have to call the customer service number, which is HORRIBLE. For some apparent reason, I suddenly can only log onto my account with a phone number that is not mine and has never been mine. The phone number that I actually has now been listed as not active for some reason. Like I said, this happened unprovoked. Now, I recently recharged my account for 30 dollars, but I am not being credited with it. Most issues have been resolved, but it has been one buggy issue after another and when I get credited for the months worth of money that I just added, i will use it up and then immediately switch carriers. AVOID THIS SERVICE AT ALL COST.

I went with 1 Star because they don't have 0 or less. I bought one of the high end phones it worked great! Bought a second phone never worked. After a month of the second phone not working and the complete loss of the money I paid for the phone and the time for the phone, I did not renew my first phone. Customer service is quick to give you a ticket number each time you call them. It seems they close out the first one to show their management how well they are doing. BUT THEY DON'T HELP YOU!
Now my daughter is trying to get the phone I had that worked reactivated. What a joke 4 days into this and she is still getting new ticket numbers and told to wait 24 to 48 hours. But Straight Talk never gets the phone going.
I tell every one this don't waste your money with Straight Talk. Because unless you are lucky enough to get a phone that works you will loose all the money you pay to them ie phone cost air time cost. DO NOT USE STRAIGHT TALK!!!!!!!

They will not admit that there is a computer virus that has effected thousands of accounts and numbers than is causing this prob. Many people from Alabama are having this prob. Straight talk cure for this prob is to ask stupid questions and keep you on the phone for 45 Min and then transfer you to another dept. and another 10 min wait on hold then you repeat the process over and over till you cant stand it any longer and hang up. I recently purchased a Samsung R451c with slide out keyboard. I love this phone. It has some great features and I went with the $30.00 plan. I did have to contact customer service but they were very helpful and curtious. Would recommend this service.

So happy I found this info. I was sooo close to purchasing the ST phone etc. I have had a trac fone for a good 5 years now and never have had a problem. I wanted to update my phone and its abilities...trac fone's are sooo antiquated to do much other than talk and texting forget it. I did buy and have service with ATT...phone would call people on its own or dial up the internet when it was locked...what the heck?? I went through atleast 2 sim cards and it was still acting up. Took to back twice....then I called again explained the problem... Told me to check the dot under the battery. They told me it was diabled due to MY getting water in it. Never ever has it been near any water. Anyways, I thought ST would be the way to go. Think I am going to save my money and just live without texting, or sending and receiving pics. Not a good idea to try out a new and unprovened company that seems to be stealing from the clients. Thank you all! You saved me money, time and frustration!

I have been with ST for about 5 months and I can not find a complaint about the service.For the first 3 months every time I refilled,my minutes and texts unused rolled over.The service at this time was "spotty" in some areas,mainly rural.Overall the phone was descent for $30 a month.I do not talk or text a lot.The last time I refilled,all of the rollover was wiped out.No issue.I understand that this is what was supposed to happen from the get go.Phone reset at 1,000 minutes and 1,000 texts.The thing is that the phone now gets excellent reception.Those areas where I was getting "spotty" service ,not anymore.The company is still working out all the kinks.For the price,you simply can not beat it.I love my StraightTalk phone and will be a customer forever.I have 2 Verizon phones and i love them too,but this ST it works!I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a cellphone that is moderately priced and WORKS!!!!!Thank you StraightTalk.Great product!

Well I was told at Wal-Mart that the Straight Talk phones use Verizon or AT&T towers in our area (East Tennessee/Oak Ridge). I also had a bad experience with T-Mobile when I had to return my prepaid phone due to bad coverage/dropped calls. If you are not willing to waste time getting the run around you might not want to get a cell phone at all....WM lady told me ALL cell phone companies customer service give you the run around. Wal-Mart finally just refunded my price after they told us phone was deactivated when it wasn't. At least Wal-Mart finally did what was right, I would buy local and ask about the return policy first.

Alrighty, I've had my phone bout 40 days. I let it get cut off and just decided to re-up it. Did so online, back up and running in about 2 minutes. Same number all the same. I love the service. After reading countless reviews I was quite worried but I know how forums work so I decided to chance it. The Browser is what I expected, I use it all the time and it works perfectly fine (no, it's not a computer but you shouldn't expect it to be). Call quality is great. Reception is great. Phone is exactly what I expected after reading revieww (samsung blackberry knockoff, r455 I thinks the model). I've not yet dealt with customer service and don't intend to unless there is no way around it. Everything I can think of having to do I can do myself and via the website. My overall review, these phones, and service, are extraordinary for the price.. unless you're an idiot and expect customer service to tell you why your friend on the other end of the line dumped their boyfriend. I think the negative reviews are people that would normally call customer service over the most ordinary issues that most people would just pass off.

5 stars for the phone and actual service I get form it.

I have had the phone since 8\20\10 wish I never heard of it! Talking to customer service is like having teeth pulled. I had to buy a second phone so they could port my number. Still no service.

Got the unlimited plan for my college aged daughter and she loves it. Verizon network is the best, and her Samsung phone (Blackberry look alike) has worked perfectly. Nothing but good to say about it.
