Page Plus Prepaid Wireless Service

Editor Rating

Overview

Page Plus Cellular is a smaller prepaid cell phone provider based in Toledo, Ohio and is a DBA of Online Wireless, Inc..

Page Plus prepaid is one of the few smaller carriers offering extremely low per minute rates and routes calls on the DigitalChoice network.

Pros: Page Plus is an extremely simple prepaid cell phone service and offers low per minute rates. Additionally, payments are accepted via credit card through PayPal and there is no activation fee to get started with service.

Cons: Phone choices with Page Plus are limited on the main website and lack a lot of the more advanced features that might be expected by some users.

Detailed Provider Information

Plans: Page Plus offers four different refill cards, which have varying calling rates. The 10 dollar card provides a rate of 12 cents per minute. The 25 dollar card is 9 cents per minute. The 50 dollar card is 8 cents per minute. The 80 dollar card is 6 cents per minute.   With the standard rate plan, there is a 50 cent monthly fee, which is deducted from your account on the 25th of every month. They also offer a nights and weekends plan, starting at 9 p.m. The card to activate this service costs 10 dollars, but it is a one-time fee. Peak minutes then cost 12 cents per minute, and there is a daily access fee of 99 cents. If there is not 99 cents left in your Page Plus account, all calls become 12 cents per minute. Calls to other Page Plus subscribers are 5 cents per minute with the night and weekend plan. Page Plus offers an unlimited anytime plan. The activation card costs 20 dollars, and there is a daily access fee of $2.49. If there is not $2.49 left in your balance, calls are charged at 12 cents per minute. Finally, the Talk & Text plan is in the style of a monthly rate plan. For $39.95 per month subscribers get 1,500 voice minutes and 1,500 text messages.

Customer Service: Customer service is available by traditional landline phone or by dialing a special number on your cell phone. Customer service is also available via email through their website.

Credit Check: None

Contract: None

Payment Options: Prepaid minute cards for Page Plus are only available online or through local retailers (a list of which is not available on the website). Payments for phone cards purchased are taken via PayPal.

Text and Picture Messaging: Text messages cost 8 cents per message sent or received. Users can buy text messaging bundles as well, $10.95 for 2,500 messages and $19.95 for 5,000 messages. These bundles expire at the end of the month and must be renewed for the next month. With the unlimited nights and weekends, and the unlimited anytime cards, text messaging is 15 cents per message, sent or received. Picture messaging is offered at 25 cents per message, plus data charges, which are described below.

Data Plans: Page Plus charges for data by the kilobyte, at $.0012 cents per KB, or $1.20 per megabyte. This includes multimedia messages (MMS), which they say range between 20 and 200 KB.

Downloadables: No downloadables are available for Page Plus customers at this time.

International Calling: International calling is available but there is a limited list of countries that can be called. If you plan to use international calling, you'll want to check out the current list of countries you can dial to on their site before signing up. Additionally, a listing of International rates is not currently available on their site, so you'll need to call to check the current rates to each destination company.

Roaming Charges: The roaming process with Page Plus is a bit complicated for the unsophisticated user. Roaming requires several dialing steps that differ depending on where your calling from. These roaming calls are billed at 59 cents per minute.

Calling Features: Voicemail, caller ID, and call waiting are included with Page Plus Wireless service at no additional charge.

Activation Fee: There is no activation fee to start up with the Page Plus Cellular service.

Nationwide Long Distance: Nationwide long distance calling is available and calls are charged the same as regular calls.

411 Calls: Directory assistance is available from Page Plus prepaid at a cost of $1.50 to connect to the 411 service in addition to your normal per minute rate.

Earliest Minute Expiration: Minutes expire 120 days from the time you add them to your account.

911 Calls: Yes, where available (no listing of where it is available is provided).

Phones:  Page Plus offers a limited number of phones, most of which are on the lower end, since the company does not offer advanced services. Page Plus also offers the activation of your current phone on their network, as long as that phone is compatible. See your local retailer for phone compatibility. The Samsung A670 and the LG VX6100 are both camera phones.

Service is good. Customer service is bad. Even supervisor was rude to me. As soon as I find similar offering I'm leaving them.

Just got rid of Boost, couldn't get any calls in the basement at work. But that's not a problem with Pageplus great service all around.

One of the best parts of PagePlus is that they're one of the few prepaid providers that have reasonably priced 3G data for occasional use, at $1.20/MB. Use the same 3G data on Verizon InPulse and it's $1.99/MB.

Remember, you're not limited to the used phones offered by PagePlus, you can use any Verizon phone, including the Verizon InPulse phones sold at Target, Walmart, Walgreen's, Best Buy, etc. as long as you don't first activate them on Verizon InPulse.

Bottom line is that PagePlus provides the best prepaid service by far, both in terms of price and coverage. Customer service is great, but you'll rarely, if ever, need it. You can now manage your account on line which was something that wasn't available until recently.

I happen to get page plus just to try it and may I say I wish I had been using it for a long time!!! It is as I have checked the best prepaid I hve seen bar none....It uses the Verizon network so you cant go wrong period!!! No dropped calls, easy card to get and cheap minutes...If you cant afford the $25 plan one month just go with the $10 one and ur set for a sec...simple and easy!!!! Net10 is 300 minutes for $30 and page plus is $25 + you get a $2 credit..so 300 mins +...you cant beat that!!!

I think it's time to update the prepaid review to include Page Plus' new Talk -n- Text plan. You get 1500 minutes AND 1500 text for just $39.95 a month. Nice, right?

I also signed for the $39.95 per month.
It is better than signning a contract and it is on Verizon Net-work

I am a page plus customer for five (5) years and I have one of the best service. Page plus is perfect for me, I use $25.00 about every 2 to 3 months and the customer service is the best.

I am extremely satisfied with this service. I've had it for about a year and $25 for 300 minutes, with no other fees and lasts 120 days, can't be beat. The phone I purchased isn't the greatest and wouldn't get another one but the service is the cheapest around!

I've been using Page Plus for over a month, and the service is awesome! I live 30 miles south of Nashville, TN, and I've never had a problem. The best part is that I'm also saving lots of $$$ with no contract or commitment. A friend gave me her old Verizon phone, and with a call to customer service, I was ready to go. I just wish I could give Page Plus 10 stars!

Highly recommended (for those that only need a bare-bones cell plan for occasional use). Since I hardly use a cellphone anymore, I wanted to ditch my Verizon Family Plan (and the $85 mo bill) and find a cheap plan. Since I loved their coverage area, I checked for a company that used their network; hence Page Plus. Now, if I had bought a new phone I would have had to pay their $10 Activation fee. But they gave me 100 minutes for free AND ported my old ph# over as I used my existing Verizon phone. THAT'S A HECK OF A DEAL, and Verizon wouldn't even try to match that when I asked what they would do to retain a 5 year customer. Totally painless experience and their US-based, English speaking customer service ROCKS! So, when I buy their $25 card (300 mins)in 120 days, it will average out to around 6 cents per min for up to 8 months of srvc. This works out to $3.125 per month for cell service (8 mos/400 mins); add another $25/300 min card at end of 7th month (to rollover unused minutes for another 120 days)and the annual first year cost is $50 which is $4.17 monthly. Heck, I'll cover the 411, roaming, and text msg costs that may occasionally appear and still save a buttload of greenbacks...

Had Tracfone for years but once I found Page Plus I couldn't believe how much money I had been throwing away! Got the V3C from their website. You have to call customer service for MMS. I can send pictures and email. Customer service is outstanding! They're always very helpful the few times I've needed them.

Would have given 5 stars, but I haven't been on the service long enough. I activated a Palm Treo with all the bells and whistles for only $.99(99 cents!) from an Ebay auction. Got $12 credit. Prices are good for calling and texting and I like that they last almost 4 months. I use the internt a lot, so I keep up with my usage by logging into the pageplus website and I can do about anything I need. Works great! I don't need much time, because I use my phone on wifi most of the time and I use PP as a backup/emergency phone. It's looking real good.

I have had page plus for more than two years. No problems. I talk very little on the cell but nice to have the cell when away from home. I get a $10 card every four months and have a balance left when I rollover. Basically, I get a cell and fifteen minutes for $2.50 per month. It works for me.

I like all the information I have read and researched about Page Plus. However, they do not have a privacy policy posted on their website. I have contacted them about this and they have informed me they will work to correct this (has not happened as of 2 weeks). I also asked if they could send me a copy of the privacy policy via e-mail and was told they could not. I will not give account and personal information to a company that cannot provide me with a privacy policy. I hope this get this fixed soon.

I have two phones activated on PagePlus for my kids.

Pluses:

Use any Verizon phone, including Verizon InPulse phones (just don't activate it on InPulse first).

Excellent coverage. Blows Tracfone, Virgin, and T-Mobile away. The big difference is in non-metropolitan areas.

Low cost. Text messaging is only 8¢, compared to 20¢ on Verizon itself. Minutes are as low as 5.3¢ when you buy discounted refills from various on-line sources.

Awesome customer service. I've only had to contact them a couple of times (ESN change, and when I forgot to re-up). They restored my account balance, but advised me that it was a one-time courtesy. The customer service reps are very well informed on how PagePlus works--you don't get wrong answers.

120 day re-upping is better than some prepaid providers, but some other providers have ways to do only 365 day re-upping.

Very low per-month minimum, $2.50 (a bit less with the discounted refill cards).

Minuses

Don't forget to re-up every 120 days. If you forget you'll lose your balance. You can call them to find out your expiration date, but also write it on your calendar, and set a reminder alarm in your phone.

They recently change their accounting system for balances. Used to be that you bought "Page Plus Money" at a discount ($80 bought $168) and you were charged 12¢/minute for voice, 8¢ per text, 50¢ for monthly fee, and 59¢ for roaming (really rare to roam). Since these costs were paid with Page Plus Money, your actual costs would be 6¢ for voice, 3.5¢ for texts, and 22¢ for the monthly fee. Now they've fixed this, and you pay the full 8¢ for texts and the full 50¢ for the monthly fee, though minutes are still 6¢ with the $80 card.

i have the new camera phone. the free nights and weekends plan sucks. your paying for EVERY little thing you do, text, eveytime you use free nights and weekends you pay!! The phone looks pretty good for being as cheap as it was. i wouldnt recommend it. you end up paying so much just to keep the phone being able to use. Use one of the well known companies t mobile, sprint, Verizon etc and get a plan

PagePlus, quite simply, rocks! Use any Verizon phone (pre- or postpaid, off-contract), get Verizon's network coverage, but with much lower rates across the board and no daily access charge! I think this is hands-down the best prepaid provider in the country.

2008/12/25

The verizon network is great!

Been using page plus for a year now, and I been on the $10 every 4 months.

I think this is the cheapest prepaid plan, ie $30/year.

This is cheaper then my last plan with Net10 @ $150-$180 a year

But I wish they diplay the min.s like Net10 does

Like Mike1, I had a used CDMA phone I used with my former Verizon account. Tried to find a store in area who new how to activate it, but all I got were no answers or donut shops/quicky marts who didn't know a thing. I finally called a Page rep and found out they could activate over the phone, which I did. Since then, it has been just like having my old verizon account back (great coverage, no dropped calls, etc), except now I am paying $100 per year instead of $600 per year. Thanks PagePlus!!

Verizon Wireless has the best system by far. I sell phones for a living and have used all systems. The best part about Page Plus is they use the Verizon Wireless Network and charge a better price per minute. You cannot go wrong with Page Plus. I recommend purchasing a new Verizon phone from Walmart and activate it on Page Plus. You will not be sorry.

Outstanding customer service. Don't need "their phone" -- I bought just what I wanted on the internet - any Verizon phone will work.
Been with them a year and after trying others I couldn't be happier.
Signed up through uglyeric-cellular on Ebay -- dumb name but great price and service!

I purchased the phone to use out of my contract phone area. I had 100 min talk time and used 3 min. when i tried to make the 3rd call the phone told me i had 7 min left of the 100 i purchased. where did the other 90 min go. its a scam, the retailer says get the hell out of my store, your screwed. then i find out from other patrons in the store they all had similar issues with PAGEPLUS MIN PHONE...... BEWARE OF RIP OFF kev in Det

Dissatisfied Customer Again
2008/08/27

BTW, the call records that customer see online is totally different from the ones the customer servive reps see so just BEWARE of this when you call these incompetent people. FYI: Page Plus is operated by Start Wireless, *************. The local number for this company is ***********. Press 7 to get to the receptionist. Trust me: you are going to need this info if you chose to do business with this company.

Dissatisfied Customer
2008/08/27

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST. Page Plus is shady and the customer service is horrible. I tried to call on several occasions and there systems are always down. Furthermore, some so called customer service reps would rather hang up on you than explained that their flawed computer system is down once again. The final straw is when they charged phone for calls that did not occur on the day or time they adamantly say they did occurred. I distinctly remember this day because I was traveling home to go to a funeral that weekend and I did not speak with anyone on my cell phone while I was on the road.

When I called to the discuss the charges and other discrepancies in my account log (such as being charged varying rates for calls being made in my local area during the same time of day), the rep was very disrespectful and then transferred me to a manager with no notice. The manager J (no need to reveal his full name) was even more disrespectful (apparently his subordinates mimic his behavior) and the biggest condescending and anal person that I have talked to in a long time. He insisted that system was always accurate; and if the call logs reflected it, then the calls occurred. That statement was very ironic because the last manager I spoke with blame my incorrect balance on the system and stated that they were in the process of changing to a new system. When he refused to transfer me to his manager by insisting that there was no one above him I needed to talk to, I just hung up on him because he was wasting my time.

Thank goodness for the internet. Via the fax number on the Page Plus website, I was able to find local name, address, and phone for this company. I was able to contact J’s manager. As it turns out there was someone above him I could talk to b/c J is a lead account manager and not the CEO.

Bottom line: If you feel like paying your money to be treated like crap by a company then by all means deal with Page Plus if not then take your money and your business elsewhere. Only gave it 1 star b/c zero stars not an option.

I dislike the service, they have no text messaging bundles, no pic messaging yet, and thats the reason I purchased the phone, I went with another carrier that offered more of what I wanted, plus they want to charge you 2.50 a day just to use the phone, no thanks.

i am very happy with their service and pricing policies. I purchased activation on ebay. For $4.99 total I got activation and $10 credit toward minutes. I was able to used an old phone a neighbor was getting rid of from Verizon. In addition, their customer service has been fabulous. I disliked the prefix 666 that I was assigned for my new number, and when I called the CS number from their website, an actual person in the states answered within one minute and fixed the problem for me quickly and politely. Here in Southern California the Verizon coverage is great and thus my page plus coverage has been excellent. I would highly recommend their service to anyone who needs a basic and affordable mobile phone service provider.

According to Page Plus you do not have to purchase a phone from them, so I purchased a compatible phone on e-Bay. I thought that activating the phone would be a simple matter. A rep that I had talked to gave me no information to the contrary. But after the phone purchase I was told by another rep that the phone would have to be activated by bringing it to a store ( if you scour their FAQs you will find no such requirement mentioned ). I knew from using their store locater that they presumably had stores in the area. But I find now that most of the stores are little convenience stores that know nothing of activating a phone, or in at least one case, have never even heard of Page Plus. The only two full fledged phone stores in my area that are affiliated with Page Plus are both apparently out of business.

Worse yet, I e-mailed their customer service several days ago and have yet to receive a response. I have finally found information on their website about the need to go to a store to get a phone activated, but it is buried in the terms and conditions section, instead of being made conspicuous. So now I am stuck and they apparently have no interest in trying to help.
