Page Plus Prepaid Wireless Service

Editor Rating

Overview

Page Plus Cellular is a smaller prepaid cell phone provider based in Toledo, Ohio and is a DBA of Online Wireless, Inc..

Page Plus prepaid is one of the few smaller carriers offering extremely low per minute rates and routes calls on the DigitalChoice network.

Pros: Page Plus is an extremely simple prepaid cell phone service and offers low per minute rates. Additionally, payments are accepted via credit card through PayPal and there is no activation fee to get started with service.

Cons: Phone choices with Page Plus are limited on the main website and lack a lot of the more advanced features that might be expected by some users. Additionally, roaming is difficult and we found the website to be lacking simple information needed by most customers.

Detailed Provider Information

Plans: Page Plus offers  four different refill cards.  The 83 minute card is 10 dollars,  the 300 minute card costs 25 dollars, the 700 minute card is 50 dollars, and the 1400 minute card is 80 dollars. However, when you purchase a card, your balanced is scaled. So when you buy the 300 minute card for 25 dollars, those 300 minutes are scaled to 12 cents per minute, so your balance reads 36 dollars. Text messaging and roaming extras come out of this scaled balance. With the standard rate plan, there is a 50 cent monthly fee, which is deducted from your account on the 25th of every month. They also offer a nights and weekends plan, starting at 9 p.m. The card to activate this service costs 10 dollars, but it is a one-time fee. Peak minutes then cost 12 cents per minute, and there is a daily access fee of 99 cents. If there is not 99 cents left in your Page Plus account, all calls become 12 cents per minute. Finally, there is an unlimited anytime plan. The activation card costs 20 dollars, and there is a daily access fee of $2.49. If there is not $2.49 left in your balance, calls are charged at 12 cents per minute.

Customer Service: Customer service is available by traditional landline phone or by dialing a special number on your cell phone. Customer service is also available via email through their website. We had specific contact with customer service via phone and found them to be helpful, informative and able to answer all of our questions.

Credit Check: None

Contract: None

Payment Options: Prepaid minute cards for Page Plus are only available online or through local retailers (a list of which is not available on the website). Payments for phone cards purchased are taken via PayPal.

Text and Picture Messaging: Text messages cost 8 cents per message sent or received. With the unlimited nights and weekends, and the unlimited anytime cards, text messaging is 15 cents per message, sent or received. Picture messaging is not available at this time.

Data Plans: Page Plus does not offer data services at this time.

Downloadables: No downloadables are available for Page Plus customers at this time.

International Calling: International calling is available but there is a limited list of countries that can be called. If you plan to use international calling, you'll want to check out the current list of countries you can dial to on their site before signing up. Additionally, a listing of International rates is not currently available on their site, so you'll need to call to check the current rates to each destination company.

Roaming Charges: The roaming process with Page Plus is a bit complicated for the unsophisticated user. Roaming requires several dialing steps that differ depending on where your calling from. These roaming calls are billed at 59 cents per minute.

Calling Features: Voicemail, caller ID, and call waiting are included with Page Plus Wireless service at no additional charge.

Activation Fee: There is no activation fee to start up with the Page Plus Cellular service.

Nationwide Long Distance: Nationwide long distance calling is available and calls are charged the same as regular calls.

411 Calls: Directory assistance is available from Page Plus prepaid at a cost of $1.25 to connect to the 411 service in addition to your normal per minute rate.

Earliest Minute Expiration: Minutes expire 120 days from the time you add them to your account.

911 Calls: Yes, where available (no listing of where it is available is provided).

Phones:  Page Plus offers a limited number of phones, most of which are on the lower end, since the company does not offer advanced services. Page Plus also offers the activation of your current phone on their network, as long as that phone is compatible. See your local retailer for phone compatibility. The Samsung A670 and the LG VX6100 are both camera phones.

For a low minutes user as myself, this service has been great. Note: A lot of higher cost roaming as you leave the large cities. Let let your friends know you want a deactivated Verison phone. Somebody will give you one!

I brought a pagePlus Prepaid phone on Feb 23,2007. it said to allow 1 to 2 weeks for delivery. I waited 3 weeks and called. The lady on the other end did not seem to think I have ordered it from PagePlus website. She was Very Rude and made out like I was Stupid! I have been fighting with PagePlus Prepaid for the past 2 months. They Send me a (Free -so-call) el-cheapO phone! However they charged my credit card with $44.75 ! The website had an error and it charged me $10.68 for a $49.95 motorola phone. They charged me the difference of $44.75 on my credit card!
My opinion of PagePlus Prepaid Co is a Mom & Pop operation and they do not care about their Customers !! Be forewarned! Stay away from PagePlus Prepaid!! They charge 14 cents a minute even if you call their company to get information! Net10 on the other hand is 10 cents a minute and you can call to get help or setup your phone without any minutes charged against you!! Net10 $15 card is 150 minutes. $30 card is 300 minutes. the $15 card is good for 1 month and the $30 card is good for 2 months. I might add that the net10 phone picks up a lot better in my area without static compared to the pageplus Prepaid card!! The choice is yours but I would give it some thought before I paid for a pageplus prepaid phone as you might not get what you ordered and be charged for it

Jason (Sylvania)

Great service and Great Rates! The minutes never expire as long you buy one card within 120 days.
Thanks to Page Plus Cellular

Tim

Page Plus Cellular is a true Prepaid and it is the right place to your dollar and sense.

John (Detroit)

This is my fifth happy year with Page Plus. I like it because Page Plus Cellular made it easy and simple.

Ray (Ohio)

Page Plus Cellular has the lowest Rate, it is .08 cents per minute NationWide. The lowest in the country.

AC

Great news .08 cents per minute.
Thanks to Page Plus Cellular.

W Wagner

Nancy D.

I like Page Plus because it is very simple and affordable.

Wilma

I love page plus cellular!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tim

Wow, Good news; If you have any competitive phone, Page Plus Cellular will replaced for free as long you switch your service to Page Plus. I didn't have to buy new phone inorder to switch to page plus and they gave me 71 minutes free with exchange of my old phone. It is nothing to loose.

Rick

I have used Page Plus on 4 phones for a year and have had great service (they use Verizon network). Best service/price - I'd give them 5 stars if you could set up web account to see usage and if you didn't have to pay a dealer a charge to switch to a different phone. Even so, I think they are great!

Sonya

Simply the best!

Sean

I am proud of Page Plus Cellular because their customer service in USA not overseas like other wireless company. That is why they have the best customer service. We need more job in the USA not in india or others!
Thanks to Page Plus Cellular.

bk

10cents a minute for a prepaid phone on verizon network!.Its the best price ever

Mason

I just received a free phone with minutes free from Page Plus. They have a trade-in program and it is nothing to loose. Page Plus Cellular has the best rate and customer service Nationwide.

SureJuJU

I switched from Sti Mobile to Page Plus about a month ago. Didn't have to pay anything (well, maybe a few dollars to mail my old Sti Mobile phone to Page Plus) but got a free phone and over one hour to start. I'm very happy so far. Hope to have a very long stay.

Paul (ohio)

I,ve pageplus and it,s still the best prepayed seveice around.I didn,t need all the tech.

FRANKIE CRAFTON

I LOVE MY PAGEPLUS PREPAID SERVICE I DONT NEED ALL THAT FANCY STUFF THEY HAVE VERY GOOD PRICING ON THERE PREPAID CARDS I WILL NEVER SWITCH BACK TO A CONTRACT PLAN I GET GOOD RECEPTION

Linda

This is just in response to the review
promoting Net 10. They may have cheap rates, but they have the worst customer service. Look at their reviews...alot of 1 star reviews. An agent just accidently keyed in 200 of my 1200 minutes to be transferred to another phone. Those 1000 minutes are now lost and they were good for another 5 months. Tracfone/Net 10 does not issue refunds or fix errors for their services. I'm trying to get the word out.

Milli

Great service, whenever I can find their customer service phone number.

Shakim

page plus cellular is for ppl who luv to text and talk. If urn looking for a cheap but good quality prepaid service u shuld get them. Page plus doesnt have internet due to bad airways connections with Verizon. But they will by 2009. They released more than eight different cell models. But due to so many requests they stopped shipping them out. Theyre new camera fone will be out next year. I used to work for them. i recomend u get it becuz you cant get a better prepaid. net10 may be always 10 cent a minute but for the fifteen dollar card they only give u thirty service days. GET Them its really worth it!

Renea (Columbus, OH)

EXCELLENCE all around!

I have used Page Plus for about five years-we have two phones. I keep recommending it to others - because - it IS the most affordable, most reliable, prepaid service by far!!!

The only draw back is that on a very limited no. of occasions the phone (Kyocera 5135) has gone into "roaming" for no apparent reason. The roaming charges are way high - so glad this has happened probably less than a dozen times in over 5 years.

Have used the service while traveling (NY, NC, KY)works fine.

For an occassional user, this works and I have no reason to get into any of those long-term, expensive contracts.

Pete

Don't buy your phone from Page Plus, buy a Verizon phone on ebay with no plan - easy to find with the features you want. Then activate and enjoy Page Plus's great prepaid rates on Verizon's network, remembering that Page Plus doesn't provide a data service.

Mike

Seriously, this is as simple and cheap as cellular gets. I bought it as a backup to ATT coverage - GSM is thin where I live. Yes, they offer refurbed phones...but even AT&T does, and the price is right. Look at the latest lineup of phones they offer. There are four to chose from and they are not cheap junk like the C139 sold new by some. You can even bring your own in, which is what I did (an old Simple Freedom - Alltel Kyocera). No activation fee, 4 months on the airtime, cheap minutes and nice CS people. What more do most people need? If you want new phones, go to Walmart, buy an Impulse and activate with PP.

Kat

This place has been difficult to deal with. I initially signed up with them through a Sprint store that offers their service, but when that store closed, I had to start doing it myself (their website doesn't offer a "store locator" to find out where else to refill minutes at).

I tried to do it online but every time I tried the online form told me the security code on the back of my credit card was incorrect. When I tried to use the "support" form on their website to report this, I got a 404.

So I took to calling them to refill. One evening when I called their computers were down so they couldn't refill my minutes...and naturally they wouldn't be back up for a couple hours, by which time they would be closed. Luckily I didn't run out of minutes by the next day. Another time I did run out of minutes, tried to access their website to get their phone number to refill (yeah, I should've written it down) and the site wouldn't load so I was without service until the next day.

Definitely planning on switching...I only stayed with them as long as I have because of price.

Daniel

Excellent. The rate is 8c/min now.

BTW, anyone know the land number of retrieving the voice mail?

Marie

I love PagePlus. The service is the same as Verizon but without the Verizon prices. I had service with Verizon and cancelled my contract with them. Then four months later I found out about PagePlus and immediately activated with Ugly Eric. I already had a sweet Verizon phone and only cost 5.99 to activate. Got 100 minutes to start off. The only thing I did not like was that annoying precall message with the minutes left. I called up and they removed it right away. I hear their website is being upgraded soon. I hope so because that would be wonderful. Now they offer night and weekends for .99 a day. Better than Verizon nights only. To top that off, with an 80 refill you get 168 dollars which makes nights and weekends less than .50 a day. How sweet is that? I would suggest anyone to give it a try if not for the 100 minutes, they will even port over your existing number and still give you the minutes with no activation. You try it for 119 days and refill if you like it. I promise you won't regret it.

very sattiefied

only problem is quality of phones- no problem ,get whichever verizon phone new or used and activate it only with pageplus i'm a sattisfied customer since justtalk closed shop and they're currently the best around.
costomer srvce great and easy to contact
877-359-6695; or #rep from any verizon cellphone

Pete

Very goo but I wish that they would offer call records more acct management options online .

Gerald

Excellent, no frills, but reliable service (dah - Verizon network), very good, professional customer support.
I am just waiting for data service. I was told they are working on it.

Thomas

THE absolute best pre-paid...

For those who bash... Most complaints are about PagePlus phones... Just buy one from Ebay! I have two of the most modern smartphones, that I paid about $150 each for... added them to Page-Plus and pay about $7 bucks a month for nationwide service - can't be beat! I've been using them for two years with at least 8 calls to customer service - no problems at all (mostly I was moving ESNs and such)

Amanda

The minutes are cheap and long distance nationwide is free. That is great for a straightforward prepaid cellular plan.
This review website though says:
Roaming Charges: Roaming requires several dialing steps that differ depending on where your calling from. However, there is no cost to roam nationwide with Page Plus.

Well, that threw me off at first. On the official company website it says Roaming Calls are .59 cents a minute, so that is what an extra cost to roam nationwide. This web page above should clarify that since I was not expecting to be charged more per minute for roaming.
Other than that, for cheap, good, no frills prepaid service, PagePlus is nice.

john

Great prices for a decent network when you buy a large block of airtime ( the $80 card .)

The website is lacking a lot but the telephone customer service is very good .

The roaming costs are high so Page Plus Cellular is not the provider to pick if you plan to roam of the Verizon network.

Bob

Verizon inPulse phones (available at Best Buy and elsewhere) work great with Page Plus. Just be sure NOT to activate them with Verizon first.

I bought both the Motorola 315 ($25) and the 385 ($89) at BB and activated them with UglyEric through eBay. Programming took less than a minute and they work perfectly.

Shannon

Never had a problem, i called in once to Customer service and they were very helpful

Jbiz

Great price, great service so far. You have to specifically request that voicemail be activated, but its just a quick call for that. Good coverage in the city in California that I am at. And the price! Great!

Sven

Haven't tried them yet, so my rating is whatever. but it's really worth noting that these guys claim on their website to let you bring your own phone!

BOB

ALL LOOKS GREAT EXCEPT THAT I WAS GIVEN A NUMBER FOR MY CITY, AREA CODE 803-207-XXXX, THAT CANT BE CALLED TO BY AT&T LAND LINES FROM THE 704 AREA CODE. 803 AREA CODE IS ROCK HILL S.C., 704 IS THE CHARLOTTE N.C. AREA. ROCK HILL IS 15 MILES FROM CHARLOTTE. PAGE PLUS SAYS ITS AT&T'S PROBLEM, AT&T SAYS ITS PAGE PLUS PROBLEM, BUT IN THE MEAN TIME I CANT CALL MY WIFE FROM MY WORK, 704 AREA CODE, IF SHE HAS MY PAGE PLUS CELL PHONE. I GET A MESSAGE THAT THE CALL CANT BE COMPLETED AS DIALED. AS SOON AS MY MINUTES RUN OUT I'M SWITCHING TO DIFFERANT COMPANY. THE ONLY THING PAGE PLUS SAYS THEY CAN DO IS TO GIVE MY A NUMBER THAT WOULD MAKE A CALL FROM MY HOME TO MY CELL PHONE A LONG DISTANCE CALL SO IT WOULD COST ME TWICE AS MUCH.

julie

i love the service but i cant receive nor send picture messages nor can i take pictures and send them to my e-mail. why offer a camera phone if you cant do anything with them... please update service

Keegan

I've used Net10, Virgin Mobile, and Page Plus Cellular. Out of all these, Page Plus kicks the other two's a**es! Unlimited nights and weekends for $15 a month (if you use the $80 phone card that actually adds $168 to your account). I get service everywhere! Go Page Plus!

Pharmer.

Living in rural Tn. I had problems in finding a cell phone that would work (no service). Tried Net10, Tracfone, AT&T, all the same, "no service". Friends told me that only Verizon system offered service in our area. Bought a used Motorola off E-Bay, had it activated with Page Plus for $5.99 from a Seller on E-Bay, & it works great here in my rural home. Really glad I found Page Plus at it is very inexpensive, works well, and the couple calls I have made to their customer Service Dept. have been commendable. The Reps. were friendly, helpful, & knew what they were doing. I am very postive about Page Plus & only hope they are successful and stay in business for a LONG time!

Quintin

page plus is the best phone period for the simple fact that page plus is unlimited if you buya twenty dollar ulimted card then purchase any other card they will charge u 1.99per day to be unlimited.page plus 2thumbs up

Dave E.

This is an excellent and cost-effective service for people who want a no-frills cell phone and live in an area with good Verizon coverage. I ported a Verizon phone to PagePlus, and I found the customer service to be both polite and competent.

Pete

Great for prepaid voice if you don't have ton roam. Their customer service is excellent . I would like to see online account services (all records, ESN swaps etc) . It also would be nice to have other services (data , text packages) but only as separate add-on paid options and leave the inexpensive voice service alone.

Stenzz

I initially had a PP LG flip phone I bought at a mom n' pop tobacco store in Hilltop, MN that went bonkers on me after recharging once. I went back, got another ($31.20 w/tax) and it has been great! literally 1/3 the price of TracFone w/better network and good (not better) customer service. If tou don't talk on the phone much and buy cards thru a reseller like me you pay LESS THAN $3.25 a month for a cellphone, How can you beat that??? Less than 11 cents a day for that kind of peace of mind and convenience. If you yak yak yak, I don't know, but for the occasional user this RULES! For once, the little guy comes out on top! Get Page Plus!!!!!

Arthur

The rates are cheap but beware with their customer service (CSR) and activation cards.
(((CUSTOMER SERVICE)))
Their CSR do not agree with each other; one told me one thing, then the other told me something different. EX1: Before buying the phone, their rep told me that I'd get free S&H- but their website and CSR told me something different. EX2: One of their CSR told me that I could access my voice mail for free by dialing #738 directly from the phone- not true, I got charge 12 cents/minute.

(((ACTIVATION CARDS))) I bought a Unlimited Anytime 24/7 Activation card for $20; they have on the description of the card that you can call to Activate or Deactivate; this info mislead me into thinking that I could activate the card for one day and then deactivate it at the end of the day, and still would have credit to use at any other later time- false-- when deactivate your activation card, you'll loose any unused credit.

(((NO REFUND POLICY)))
I called their CSR and talked to managers and CSR, right after (less than one hour) I bought the card, and found out it wasn't what I expected; they all told me that they wouldn't refund me anything because the website said so. So I am going to dispute the $20 charge- they told me they'll cancel my account and never allow me join again; if I sign up gain under another name, I wonder how they'll be able to know if it is me or someone else. What they were trying to do is scare me into not disputing the charge because they'll be charged with charge back fees from their merchant account provider.

poohly

well my phone haves no camrea ....boo but every thing esle just right i bought the 10.00 free nights and weekends great wow it's free for a very very very very long time

DA in TN

I activated an old Verizon phone on the PagePlus network and have used it in several states without trouble! One of the best things about PP is the 120 days (that's four months!!) to use current minutes, then any unused minutes roll over for another 4 months along with the new minutes purchased. And...I think the most awesome thing is that,if you have phones available that were previously activated on the Verizon network, PP can activate any former VZW phone and you don't have to buy a new phone!!! I can hardly wait for our VZW contract to run out in March '09...will be activating with PP and saving a bunch of $$$. Keep up the great work, PagePlus!!

raderator

I've had Page Plus for several years. It is simply the best. Verizon coverage, dirt cheap, 4 month PINs, and great CS. Use any Verizon phone including a new INpulse phone from Wally World or Best Buy. Activations are as low as $3 on eBay w $100 mins. Or port and get 100 mins too. Data service is coming soon. Don't let the crappy web site fool you. These guys are just frugal. They ain't goin' nowhere.

Airvoice Express is a similar company. They also use the Verizon network but have a $50 PIN that lasts a year. I put my parents on them. Per/min cost is the same as PP but roaming costs twice as much. But my parents don't travel a lot.
