Overview

San Diego-based Leap Wireless founded Cricket in 1999, but didn't gain major traction until the mid-2000s. They offer flat-rate plans that include unlimited services, including voice minutes, messages, and data.

Pros: Cricket's offerings cover most budgets, and offer a variety of services. Their Muve Music plan is a hit among customers.

Cons: The better phones still remain on the expensive end, and they limit 3G data usage for many smartphone plans.

Detailed Provider Information

Plans: Cricket has three different tiers of service: mobile plans, smartphone plans, and Muve Music plans. The mobile plans start with the basic 35 dollar plan, which includes unlimited talk and text messaging. The 45 dollar plan adds multimedia messaging, mobile data, and a number of calling features. The 55 dollar and 65 dollar plans add international options (covered in the international section). There are two smartphone plans. The 55 dollar plan includes 1GB of 3G mobile data along with unlimited minutes and messages. The 65 dollar plan adds a number of music and entertainment services. The basic Muve Music plan includes unlimited talk, text, and data, plus unlimited music downloads from Cricket's Muve Music plan. The 65 dollar plan provides the same services, but is for Android smartphones. It therefore provides only 1GB of 3G mobile data.
