Humor: Phone Mount Defies Gravity

Like all blogs and websites nowadays, we have a pretty good spam filter here at Prepaid Reviews. I go through pretty regularly and empty out the folder, occasionally stopping to laugh at the ridiculous spambot comments. My current favorite is: “The very heart of your writing whilst sounding agreeable in the beginning, did not really work properly with me personally after some time.” Great critique, spambot. Anyway, I came across a comment about a product today and I had to share. Introducing the Smart Phone Sleeper (no, that’s not a typo), a device that in my opinion pretty much sums up everything that is wrong with our culture’s outlook on smartphones. The comment (which I unfortunately, already deleted) described it along the lines of a device that “magically floats your smartphone without bolts, screws, clips or adhesive.” Man, how could I resist that? So I did the unthinkable and clicked the Amazon link that was included, and I haven’t stopped laughing since. This absurd device is basically a plastic tube with a cheap mount on one end and a strip of plastic to wedge underneath something on the other. The idea is that you can use your device, hands free, anywhere, without having to *gasp* set it down. It also releases you from the stress of dropping your phone on your face constantly while laying in bed. No more black eyes! From the awkward graphics and photos to the terrible grammar of the website (the iPhone is not spelled I Phone… just an FYI), I just don’t even know where to start on this laughable product. Here are some of the weird photos pulled from their site. Captions are added, but the images are not edited:

She looks more terrified than relaxed the longer you look at it.

This looks so much easier and more comfortable than just holding the phone.

It’s perfect for watching videos on your phone in your pajamas beside the pool while holding a sexy pose!

But all of that aside, the marketing is probably the worst. The idea that this product is spawning is that you should use your phone 24/7 without having to lift a finger. And, they basically argue, since most of the world is already addicted to their phones and won’t even put them down to do important things (like sleep) you should buy this device and just not sleep. Ever. The motto for the product is: “Hands free enjoyment all night long.” Nothing wrong with this picture, right? I can’t decide if I’m outraged at the concept of it, flabbergasted that it made it off the ground, or amused at the ludicrousness. Probably all three. However, if you feel the need to be able to use your phone in an awkward position without hands instead of sleeping, you can purchase this mount for $35 from Amazon or from the company website.]]>

Thank you for your funny review. I loved it. I invented this product 22 years ago originally for beepers, “Beeper Sleeper”! I just up-dated it for smartphones. I sell all over the world! I have gotten a lot of positive e mails from people who had operations and are stuck in bed. All in all people like and use my product. Just fyi. Anyway, again thanks for the review, I did enjoy your writing and the way you thought of my product.

All humor aside, I can certainly see some uses for such a thing, just maybe not for everyday use. Thanks for being a good sport!
