Virgin Mobile to get BlackBerry Curve 8530

BlackBerry off contract. We know that Cricket will offer the BlackBerry Curve 8530 at some point this summer. According to a recent report from PhoneNews.com, we could be adding another carrier to the list. They caught a tidbit on RIM’s download page, which indicates that the Curve could hit Virgin Mobile sometime soon.

As you can see above, RIM has an OS 5.0 version ready for Virgin Mobile. That presents a pretty good sign that they’re readying a release, though we have no information on when that might be. We also don’t know the price point of the device, though considering Virgin’s exclusive focus on prepaid, that could be around $300 or so. We haven’t heard much from Virgin since the merger with Sprint. This would be a good way to get back into the public conscious. ]]>

If prepaid is what you are looking for then go for Net10. Net10 is real and has no contracts and all the positives of good saving. Net10 gives 10c per minute calls and 5c messages. The phones are nice and the coverage is good. Its really worth it.

With sister Sprint prepaid division carrier Boost having unlimited Blackberry Bis & Bes slready, I really don’t see what VM can offer that is better or different. There are all kinds of Blackberry & VM prepaid rumors floating around these days like a Verizon prepaid berry plan and Sprint adding more prepaid divisions but til we see something solid which this is not it alll remains conjecture.

I love my Boost Curve 8330 to bits, but I have to admit the VMUSA 8530 does look tempting, with its faster processor, more RAM, etc. I’ll have to keep an eye on this.

Virgin Moblile offers the phone and a great data plan to boot. Phone is $299 on the website, but can be purchased for $279 at Walmart. Unlimited data, unlimited texting, 300 minutes, and the blackberry plan runs $35. Great deal. Battery is poor, signal strength a bit weak, but awesome features and a solid value.

I’ve had this phone for almost a month and I love it except I can not receive (nor have I ever been able to receive) any text messages from any person who has AT&T. They can receive mine. It is confirmed as a issue only with ALL virgin mobile blackberry phones. and all of the BB phones are having this problem for a long time. As per several forums for at least 2 months. I can not recommend this phone to anybody until they fix the text issue.
I held of getting 8530 till MMS was fixed but Virgin mobile has not publicized the AT&T text issue which is not the fault of AT&T. My contacts have already spoken with AT&T. Virgin Mobile deletes my question directed to these issues on resolution date and they are removed them from questions and answers forum page for BB 8530 at their web site. Virgin mobile has resolved most of the unable to receive MMS except for this one. This BB phone can not receive any picture messaging from the LG Rumor touch. Blackberry places it in SMS folder and shows as symbols and from 9999999999. They are aware of the issue with all the blackberries and can not comment on when it will get fixed. Their upper level tech support is contracted as a 3rd party and even the basic call in tech support is not allowed to speak to tier 3 other then email and wait 72 hrs for reply, then you have to call back to basic tech support to see what tier 3 said, give your reply and wait another 72 hrs and so forth.
If you are interested in this phone and have AT&T contacts, forewarned, call the tech support 888-322-1122 and ask if AT&T text issue has been resolved before purchasing. If they say they know nothing of the issue then ask them to ask somebody who knows about it.
