Samsung Intercept (Virgin Mobile) getting Android 2.2 update

One of the most frequent questions about any Android handset is, when will it get an update to OS 2.2 (Froyo)? Many handsets will not get it. There was a good chance that the Samsung Intercept on Virgin Mobile would be stuck with Android 2.1 for the rest of its life. This is not true. On their official Twitter account, though, Virgin says that the Intercept will, in fact, get Froyo 2.2. It will come on March 25, so we have about five weeks to go. Still, that’s incredible news for those who bought that and regret it, because the Optimus comes with Android 2.2.

   Virgin Mobile USA is pushing back the Android 2.2 (FroYo) upgrade to first week of April 2011.

   Here is latest from their Twitter Account:

   @NG_Player I’m sorry, the update is being rescheduled due to some internal timing issues. It should be ready the first week of April.

   Starting Monday April 4th, Virgin Mobile will offer a software update for the Samsung Intercept which will update the device software from Android 2.1 Eclair to Android 2.2 Froyo. Not all Intercept customers will receive the software update at the same time. The initial software update push will be to 5,000 Intercept users. Further deployments of the software update are scheduled for 4/5/2011 – 4/7/2011, 4/11/2011 – 4/14/2011 and 4/18/2011 – 4/21/2011.

   I’m still sitting here with a outdated Interecpt on 4/15/11.

   Its now April 19th and ive been waiting since i got the phone for Froyo, idk if they will push it back AGAIN but i heard recently that its going to be available sometime at the end of the month. Fingers Crossed!

    Got mine today. No email or text before hand just pressed update android and it worked. Was stuck at half way on the 46.3mb download for a while but I think it comes in two pieces as not to overload the network. Later in the day it prompted me to install. Took a few minutes and works great! Major improvement…faster..and like how it looks! Go VM!

    Stalled for a week on the update messages n finally installed it… my intercept has been having different issues ever since.. VM just suggests I call samsung to request unspecified help since Vm apparently doesn’t want to trouble shoot it incase they kill my phone doing so.. third time I’ve had issues with vm tech support/customer service scape goating an issue.
