Could Virgin Mobile be getting the LG Rumor 2?
posted by Joe on July 20th, 2009 - 7:30 am | Virgin Mobile

We don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, but there’s a rumor going around about the next handset for Virgin Mobile. It’s the LG Rumor 2, a slide-out full QWERTY device. MobileCrunch has the scoop, though as they note this is not confirmed, just a rumor with strong backing. As such, there is no word on pricing or availability, but it could reasonably go for under $100 without a contract. We’ll try to confirm or deny this either way.

While the rumor 2 would be a great addition to VM, it seems that Virgin Mobile has one major downfall to people who text a lot. You can only send and recieve a message of 160 characters mazimum. If you send long messages (like me and a lot of people I know) you are stuck writing the first half of the message, saving it, writing another message, saving it, (saving any other messages too if it is very long) then going into drafts and then sending them one at a time. This is very annoying to have to do. No other carrier does this where it just stops typing after 160 characters. This was one of the main reasons I switched from VM to GoPhone. In order to grab more text oriented people, VM should fix this problem.

Virgin Mobile Canada already has this phone, and several other phones that they should have here in the states. They have 2 Blackberry phones. What we don’t rate.

I did some research on Phonescoop. The Lg has a smaller screen than the X-TC and no video like the X-TC. No Ev-DO or 3g which the Shuttle has. What the point of adding this phone.

This is great news for Virgin Mobile USA. It’s about time they offered something better than the kyocera phones. The X-tc has too many bugs. Maybe this LG R2 will outperform the xtc.

To John Brown:
I own the X-tc at the moment, and just to let you know… it doesn’t take video.

One advantage the LG Rumor 2 has over the Kyocera X-TC is being able to create and display graphical emoticons. The X-TC cannot do either.

Well maybe it’s time to get rid of this POS wildcard qwerty. I’m not the only one who notices its annoying quirks (doesn’t ring when it should, rings when it shouldn’t, miss a call and there is no option on the menu to directly call them back, plug in the phone to top off the battery while waiting for a call? the phone always shuts itself off so you miss the call!)
Since I got it at Target for $40 on black friday I’m not too furious and outside of some setup SNAFUs Virgin service has since been spotlessly stellar.
