Tracfone/Straight Talk/Net 10 removing AT&T offerings, including SIM

Tracfone, Straight Talk, and Net10 have removed references to AT&T in its bring-your-own-device SIM card program. A visit to these websites does reveal that Straight Talk is offering BOYD support for CDMA devices, unlocked GSM devices, and T-Mobile branded devices, but not AT&T. No one from Tracfone or America Movil has made a statement, leaving much mystery. After all, the two companies have had close relations lately. Just a few days before the PhoneNews.com report, Straight Talk wrote a blog post about using the iPhone 5 on its network. One of the items reads: “Bring an AT&T or T-Mobile compatible GSM phone, or an unlocked GSM phone.” That was January 17th, with PhoneNews.com’s report coming out on the 25th. Additionally, just over a year ago America Movil and AT&T signed a strategic memorandum of understanding, which marked the “expansion of our long standing and trusted relationship with AT&T” according to a Telmex official. Telmex is owned by America Movil. We’ll await further word — calls for comment have been in vain by all parties. It does seem like quite a strange development. But as of now, none of AM’s brands are offering AT&T SIM cards through its website. ]]>

Well, basically you lose iphone high speed data capability in non Tmobile refarmed areas . But there are enough refarmed areas that Tmobile sims will work in many if not most markets. Tmobile ST is more generous then Att ST with data anyway. Figure about five gigs vs two for their so called “unlimited” .

I have an at&t galaxy. My contract is over and I have the unlock code.. I was waiting to get the new sim before trying it. Since it will be unlocked and is a GSM, will their SIM card work with it? (Unlocked means unbranded, right?)
