T-Mobile offering porn on prepaid phones?
posted by Joe on June 26th, 2007 - 1:32 pm | T-Mobile
A few weeks ago, we shared that Amp’d mobile had plans to provide first-hand porn downloads — that is, before it was ensconced in this bankruptcy lawsuit. So we were braced for another few months of pornless cell phones. In Arizona last week, T-Mobile may have tipped their hand in being the first to offer mobile porn.
Okay, so we’re certainly taking this interpretation a bit far. As far as T-Mobile is concerned, the porn found on a phone issued at a Wal Mart store (so it was likely prepaid) was an accident. Or at least that’s the public stance right now.
The quick story: woman buys T-Mobile phone and gives it to her boyfriend. Porn is discovered the next day. T-Mobile first blames boyfriend — or both — saying that they either took the photos themselves or were e-mailed the photos.
So what really happened? Well, it’s entirely possible that the woman and her husband positioned the porn on the phone in order to raise a stink. However, T-Mobile admits that it is probably at fault. The manager at the Wal-Mart-based T-Mobile store “speculated that the phone number given to her was already attached to another photo gallery which included naked pictures.” And then T-Mobile themselves issued a statement saying that “We regret this isolated incident, and are taking appropriate measures to correct it.”
For compensation, the woman is being offered a new phone and a porn-free number. In addition, T-Mobile is waiving the activation fee. What’s not clear is if the woman will receive a full refund for her pornful phone on top of a new free one — though we expect that’s the case.
Anyone out there have any idea how feasible it would be for the woman and boyfriend to load the porn on the phone in an attempt to get a free one and some other free goodies? We’d love to know. Either leave a comment or drop us an e-mail: editor@prepaidreviews.com.
