Republic Wireless Officially Offers BYOP

This month, Republic Wireless announced that customers are now able to port in unlocked GSM phones. This is the first time that bring your own phone (BYOP) has been available for Republic Wireless. The company is able to do this by offering SIM cards specific to each carrier it offers. Currently, the SIM cards cost $5 plus shipping. This is all possible because earlier this summer, Republic Wireless added T-Mobile to its network in addition to Sprint. This not only expanded coverage and wifi, but also allowed Repubic to add nine new smartphones. Now, customers can either port or purchase them directly from Republic Wireless. Here are the GSM phones you can activate:
  • Moto G4
  • Moto G4 Plus
  • Moto X Pure Edition
  • Nexus 5X by LG
  • Nexus 6P by Huawei
  • Samsung Galaxy J3
  • Samsung Galaxy S6
  • Samsung Galaxy S7
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
If you need to double check your device’s compatibility, you can install the Republic Wireless app from Google Play. Or, you can input your model number here. Plans from Republic Wireless still start at $15/month and work all the way up to $90/month. Honestly, this is kind of a big deal for Republic Wireless. It started out with some basic devices that were exclusive to Republic Wireless. In order to get the service, you had to buy a Republic Wireless phone, which slowed down the flow of new customers quite a bit. Now that customers are able to bring their own phone or purchase a phone that isn’t exclusively tied to Republic Wireless, I think more people will be interested in giving them a shot. You can get more information on the Republic Wireless website, or read up on the latest news and reviews here.]]>
