Send paper postcards from your cell phone
posted by Stuart on February 13th, 2008 - 11:30 am | Prepaid Services
You know, some people still use snail mail. It’s probably not best for important things — hell, I still feel a bit weary sending back my Netflix movies. But it’s still nice for sending things like postcards, which don’t necessarily have to be timely, and are a nice little gesture. So a service called Wish You Were Here (we’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year) allows you to send out postcards right from your cell phone.
It’ll cost you a bit more than a traditional postcard: $1.99. But you can personalize it with your own text and photos. The process is to text WYWH to shortcode 69626. You can then send your picture to WYWH.mobi. Visiting a mobile web site is the final step. It’s here that you’ll be able to enter your text and send your postcard.
This sounds like a far better idea than buying a postcard at a gift shop. Yeah, it might cost a bit more, but it’s much more personal than buying some generic snapshot.
The service is currently available on AT&T, Sprint, CellularOne, Boost Mobile, and Virgin Mobile. More carriers are expected to sign on soon.
