Prepaid phones help avert disaster

Phoenix, Arizona is a budding place for new businesses. As more and more information services pop up, we’re finding our businesses increasingly reliant on computers. And not just of the personal or networked type. We’re talking huge servers containing valuable information. Problem is, when natural disasters strike, companies risk losing everything. They see Phoenix as a place with relatively consistent weather, leaving them less susceptible to the elements. TeleSphere, a company specializing in Internet phone service, is one of those companies, though they still have a warehouse in Memphis, Tennessee. Earlier this month, a tornado hit the city — and a fire ignited during clean-up. But the company stayed connected the entire time, thanks to prepaid phones.

This is thanks to Warehouse86, which runs the Memphis site. their director of information technology, Joseph King, had his staff pick up pay-as-you-go phones in order to access office phone lines. And it was a smashing success.

“We didn’t lose a single voicemail message, and we literally lost no time between the tornado and business,” King said.

Apparently, they had these prepaid phones ported to their office phones, so when calls came in, the cell phones rang, too.

This is just a simple illustration of how people can use prepaid phones in an innovative way to create a stronger customer guarantee. WIthout these phones, TeleSphere would have experienced a good deal of downtime, which wouldn’t have sat well with their customers, which reside in 44 states. Yeah, the tornado ran through Tennessee, but a business in, say, Oregon might be less understanding of the circumstances.
