Prepaid BlackBerry solution hits Indonesia
posted by Joe on June 10th, 2008 - 7:30 am | Prepaid Services
So when will we see a mainstream prepaid BlackBerry Internet Service option in the U.S.? Hopefully soon, but hopefully I’ll soon be inheriting $10 million. Research In Motion has taken the experiment to Indonesia, though, and is offering a prepaid BlackBerry option for subscribers of Telkomsel. It works exactly as you’d expect of a prepaid BlackBerry. You activate the BIS through a text message, and it is cut off when you have insufficient funds.
I’m not quite sure how they measure usage, or if such an option is even viable within the U.S. I would think we’d be more likely to see an option like AT&T’s prepaid data plan, which costs $20 per month. While that’s not exactly pay-as-you-go, as the Indonesian plan is, perhaps the market in the U.S. wouldn’t be so hot on such a solution.
