O2 Wireless to debut at Best Buy
posted by Joe on November 21st, 2008 - 8:30 am | Prepaid Services
While the masses might be flocking to Best Buy today to pick up the BlackBerry Storm, cost-savvy customers might go for other reasons. For instance, what about the low-cost options from O2 Wireless from Locus Telecommunications. Their services are now available at 1,150 Best Buy locations and on BestBuy.com. This includes not only the O2 Wireless services, but the O2 Wireles Universal SIMCard, which allows customers to bring their unlocked GSM phones for service with O2.
Locus focuses on the international benefits of the O2 service. They offer competitive international calling rates, so the service is ideal for those visiting the U.S. You can insert an O2 SIM into your existing GSM phone and realize excellent rates for calling home to friends and family.
Pete Grubb, VP of Sales & Marketing at Locus Telecommunications commented, “The relationship with Best Buy is a very important partnership for O2 Wireless. It provides access to our simple, flexible, carrier-grade service offering to millions of budget-conscious Americans who are looking for any way to save money in this difficult economy and provides a service that addresses the need of wireless consumers at all life-stages and income levels. This service is well positioned for international travelers, visiting the U.S., who are looking for a cost-effective way to stay in touch with family members back home.” He added, “The relationship also reinforces our efforts to support an environment and that make it simple to re-use pre-owned cell phones.”
O2 certainly seems to be making a name for itself in the prepaid wireless world. If you use their service, make sure to leave a review.

I’ve used O2 for a while now. I have to admit, its worked out well. I can call internationally and it bills me like a local call. I can recharge my minutes by walking into any BB or calling their customer service. Works well for me.

This is great news. I think international calling and traveling with cell phones is currently not competitive. I wonder if O2 will partner with US carriers to bring other services to market.
Cheers,

Hey, my name is Shaun and I picked up an O2 sim card today. I’m an American who has lived in China for a couple of years and I’m visiting my family in the US for a couple of weeks. So far, O2 is excellent. I can call my family locally and my friends in China for the same price! That’s 5 cents a minute with their plus plan. The minutes on the plus plan expire after 30 days, but that won’t affect me. I willjust reload it each time i visit the states. I was also able to use my existing unlocked GSM mobile phone, just slipped in the SIM. Also I can text my friends who are in China, 10 cents for the first message of the day then 5 cents thereafter. I think I’m in a pretty unique niche of mobile phone users, but O2 has catered to my needs exactly. I give it an 11 out of 10. Easy to set up too.

O2 is the perfect option for someone like me who’s not a heavy user but does a lot of calling from the US, where I live, to the UK where my family are. My cell bill is about $10-15 a month. I do wish they had a data plan, though.
