Windows Phone 10 Information Roundup

There has been a lot of information about the upcoming release of the new Windows 10 which will be pushed not only to computers but also to Windows smartphones. And let me tell you, Windows fans, it looks pretty freaking sweet! Unfortunately, Microsoft has been a little vague on when we can expect these fabled Windows 10 Phones, but the hints suggest later this fall. Anyway, while you wait, check out this list with some of the cooler things that Microsoft has announced about the new Windows OS:
  • Run iOS and Android Apps – Probably one of the biggest piece of news was the announcement that the new Windows OS will be able to run Android and some iOS applications. Developers won’t have to completely recode just for Windows anymore, although it remains to be seen if anyone actually takes advantage of this. If they do, it could go a long way to making Windows a viable phone platform, as the lack of apps is a no-go for most people.
  • Continuum makes your phone a PC – Microsoft is making the user interface universal, which means that you’ll be able to connect your phone to a screen, keyboard and mouse, and it will act like a PC so you can edit files and more. Pretty sweet.
  • Better UI – The user interface of Windows 10 Phones is more user friendly with enhanced notifications, more quick actions, more voice recognition options and cleaner settings menus.
  • Microsoft Edge – Microsoft has officially announced its new browser, which has been referred to as Project Spartan. While personally I prefer the codename, some of the things Microsoft Edge can do look pretty cool and if done right, might even be able to give Chrome a run for its money.
  • Free Microsoft Office – All phones will get a full, free version of Microsoft Office for viewing files, etc. Combined with Continuum, you might not even have to buy it for your desktop anymore.
As it gets closer to release, I’m sure that more features will also become apparent. Cortana is supposedly going to be even more clever, but most of the information on Cortana seems to be focused on Window 10 for the PC right now. Keep an eye out for more updates and information! So, will you be upgrading to Windows 10 for your phone?]]>

I have already bought a Lumia 530 specifically to test out the Insider Preview builds and I will be upgrading my Lumia 925 the day Windows 10 is released, plus I will be getting a Lumia 940/940XL as soon as it becomes available.

I’m just going by what I’ve read, really. I haven’t actually gotten to play with it any. Have you tried it out for yourself, Sam?
