T-Mobile Shadow gets thumbs up

Usually when a new phone comes out, our initial thought is to give you the facts. Features, size, all that stuff you supposedly care about. But you know what? It seems like most phones coming out today have similar features. And because many carriers are installing universal software on their phones, the interface isn’t much different from $40 phone to $250 phone. This time, we found an actual user review, and we’d like to share it. It’s for the T-Mobile Shadow, the first in T-Mobile’s “line of consumer-friendly fancyphones.” And by fancyphone, they mean a less complicated smartphone. Once we saw it was a slider, we were hooked. Yes, we know of the issues, and have actually had a friend break his slider because his credit card got stuck between the two layers. But we love the space-saving aspect of it, and that it allows for a larger viewable area. It has a half-keyboard, which is certainly better than your normal keypad, while not being as cumbersome as a full keyboard. Plus, it means the buttons are bigger, so people with bigger fingers can still operate the device. The complaints, as they come from Engadget, mainly have to do with it bring run on Windows Mobile, and interface we ourselves have issue with. That, and it runs on EDGE, which is pretty much outdated at this point. It is WiFI compatible, though, which should come in handy at the many T-Mobile Hot Spots. It runs at $149.99 with a two-year contract, and we’re figuring double for prepaid. However, as we’ve noted, T-Mobile doesn’t have much in the way of data plans for prepaid. We’re presuming that the $1 per day Sidekick deal would work with the Shadow, though. [Engadget Mobile]]]>
