Samsung r500 available on Cricket on Christmas Eve
posted by Joe on December 21st, 2007 - 9:29 am | Cricket, Prepaid Phones

If you have a friend who just happens to use Cricket and haven’t gotten him or her a Christmas present yet, you might be in luck. For some unbeknownst reason, the carrier will introduce a new phone, the Samsung r500, on Christmas Eve. We’re no marketing experts, but it seems strange to release a product a day before your store will be closed. It also seems strange to release one when most people will have their holiday shopping done. Well, maybe not.
Don’t expect the moon from this phone, though. It’s got the standards, but not much else. This means a 1.3 MP camera, MP3 player, 2 GB microSD slot, and Bluetooth capability. It seems like we type that for nearly every phone we see coming out, so you’ll excuse us if we’re desensitized to any kind of hype surrounding this.
It’s not particularly small: 3.72 x 1.95 x. 0.66 inches, and weighing in at 3.34 ounces. So it’s decidedly average, in terms of features and in terms of size.
So what are you going to be paying for this average phone? Try $200. We’ve come to expect this from Cricket, though. We love their service and pricing, but their phones are always expensive. We guess your standing on this depends on which you prefer: cheap service, or cheap phones. Because we’ve been having a hard time finding any viable combination.
