Alltel releases Samsung Hue
posted by Joe on July 19th, 2007 - 10:00 am | Prepaid Phones

We’re always psyched when a new phone is released and is immediately available on a prepaid plan. Unfortunately, most times the phone costs like $300, so many people have to wait until the price drops dramatically. Alltel, though, has a great deal on a prepaid phone: the Samsung Hue. The main selling point: it has interchangeable faceplates, so you can set the color to your mood.
Of course, that’s not going to sell many people, especially when a three-pack of faceplates costs you $25. It does have an MP3 player built in, which is a decent selling point, though it has few other standout features.
You’ll be able to take decent pictures with the 1.3 mp camera, but really, you won’t be able to do much else. It’s not a light phone, weighing in at 3.22 oz, but it’s not a clunker either. It does give you 160 minutes of talk time, which is good.
It’s going to set you back $100, which isn’t bad at all for a good prepaid phone. It’s $39 with a two-year service commitment, and you also get a free Snap phone (as a backup, we suppose), and a scratch-and-win card that can get you a free ringtone, MP3 player, camcorder, DVD recorder, for an HDTV. Of course, you don’t get any of this with the prepaid version.
Really, though, there’s not much special about this phone. But at $100, it represents a decent phone on a prepaid plan for a fair price. Now, if we could only unlock the damn thing and bring it from prepaid provider to prepaid provider…
