Possible Rate Increase for Old Lycamobile SIMs

According to Dennis over at Prepaid Phone News, several Lycamobile customers have reported that their rates for outgoing calls has been increased from $0.02/minute to $0.05/minute. This rate increase seems to only be effecting those still using Lycamobile’s “old” SIMs which began to be phased out last summer. Customers on the “new” Lycamobile Plus SIMs are still receiving minutes at the regular $0.02/minute for both incoming and outgoing. However, Lycamobile has announced several times that all customers should be charged the $0.05/minute for outgoing calls so no telling how long that will last. From what I can gather, the new Lycamobile SIMs are essentially the same as the old ones, with the notable exception that they do not support data for paygo plans. The new SIMs are, otherwise, superior and support both locked T-Mobile and unlocked GSM phones as well as MMS. Lycamobile doesn’t really advertise its pay-as-you-go plans, but instead defaults to this plan if there is not a monthly plan selected. Likewise, users can switch to this plan by purchasing a $10 top up and letting the normal monthly plan lapse. Rates are technically charged at $0.05/minute for both incoming and outgoing. Toll-free numbers and incoming texts are included at no extra cost, while outgoing texts cost $0.04/text.
