BYO Wireless Changes Plans, Adds GSM Service

BYO Wireless has made some significant changes during the last week or two, and apparently I missed it. But, these huge changes include removing two plans from the lineup, adding two additional plans, changing the data options on several plans, promoting double data through auto renew, adding data to top-ups and adding a GSM service through T-mobile. Whew! We’ll take it one at a time.

Plan Changes

First, we’ll take a look at the plan changes in handy bullet-point format:
  • Removed $30 and $40 plans
  • Added $55 and $70 plans
  • Increased data on $5 and $10 plans
Now, here’s what the plans currently look like: BYO new plans Additionally, BYO is offering double the data for customers who sign up with auto renew. The image above is without the double data, so you can get a pretty good deal with competitive pricing if you are okay with automatic payments.

Top Up Changes

  • $5 top-up – 100 minutes or 1000 texts or 250 MB (was 100 MB)
  • $10 top-up – 250 minutes or 2000 texts or 500 MB (was 250 MB)
  • $15  top-up – 500 minutes or 4000 texts or 1 GB (was 400 minutes and 400 MB)

New GSM Service

Last, but not least, BYO Wireless is adding GSM service through T-Mobile in addition to their Verizon CDMA service. The plan pricing is exactly the same and Prepaid Phone News reported that it does include LTE data, but no roaming. SIM cards cost $10 and eligible phones can be activated immediately. This news comes only a few days after Ting announced that they also will be offering GSM service starting in 2015, also through T-Mobile. While Ting and BYO have completely different pricing schemes (one is postpaid no contract and the other prepaid) and are not competing as much with other MVNOs, I still wonder if this is a result of the price war moving over to the MVNO market.]]>
