Clinic treats children for phone addiction

What would you do if your kid spent six hours a day on his cell phone? A couple in Spain faced this dilemma with their two children, 12 and 13, who simply could not relinquish their phones. It got so bad that their grades plummeted, and they started tricking relatives into giving them money to buy phone cards. They’re now in treatment, which could last up to a year.

“It is the first time we have used a specific treatment to cure a dependence on the mobile phone,” [Dr Maite Utgès, director of the Child and Youth Mental Health Centre in Lleida, north-east Spain] said.

“They both showed disturbed behaviour and this exhibited itself in failure at school. They both had serious difficulties leading normal lives.”

Do you know anyone who is this addicted to their mobile? Would you consider treatment for them?
