Rumor: MetroPCS getting Galaxy S3, other Androids this year
posted by Joe on August 1st, 2012 - 10:16 am | MetroPCS
According to an Android Forums user, who claims to work in MetroPCS‘s corporate office, we could see a number of 4G LTE handsets launch on MetroPCS before year’s end. Of course, we already knew that Metro planned to launch a number of them. But that was just a vague idea. Now we have specific handset names, along with rough release dates. After the jump we’ll get down to it.
The first is the Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G, which we covered earlier in the week. That release is just a week away, coming on August 6th. Apparently, the mobile hotspot feature will be enabled, so you can connect other devices to Metro’s LTE network through the Lightray.
Three other handsets are due for an August launch. The first is the Coolpad Quattro 4G, a device you probably haven’t heard of. It looks like a pretty standard 4-inch touchscreen Android device. By this point its 1GHz processor, 512MB of internal storage, and Android 2.3 operating system are pretty low-end. But you can bet it’ll be cheap.
At the end of August we’ll get the LG Motion 4G, which we first saw last week. The ZTE Anthem 4G is also coming on that date. We don’t have a ton of information on that yet, but since it’s due by the end of August you can expect some specs and perhaps some leaked photos coming soon enough.
Moving into September we’ll see the Huawei Pinnacle 2 and the Samsung Contour 2. The Huawei Verge is scheduled for around then, too. The big name, though, is the Samsung Galaxy S 3, which is due for a release “after September and before December.” Considering the positive reviews the handset has already received, this could be a coup for MetroPCS no matter the price tag.
