MetroPCS to start $30 mail-in rebate promotion in March

Yesterday MetroPCS sent out a press release that was meant to change its financial expectations for the first quarter of 2012. In it they warned of higher subscriber costs, because of a $30 mail-in rebate program that starts on March 1. Talk about burying the lead! Yes, this means MetroPCS, starting Thursday, will start offering $30 mail-in rebates. WIth new federal and state tax codes potentially delaying people’s income tax refund checks, Metro feels that they can offer people a bargain on phones in order to lure them. There aren’t many specifics available — most of the current information centers on the Wall Street impact — but we should find out more Wednesday or Thursday.

In other MetroPCS news, a report recently circulated, suggesting that neither Metro nor Cricket will be sold any time soon. There are many reasons at play, but that appears to be the outlook.
