MetroPCS to launch BlackBerry Curve 8330, EVDO access

According to a report on PhoneNews.com, MetroPCS will begin offering data services on their EVDO network in non-AWS markets. The plan, as reported, is to debut the service at the end of this month and to launch the Prepaid BlackBerry Curve 8330. This will be a Best Buy exclusive, at least until later this year.

The problem, as one might imagine, is the price. Since MetroPCS does not subsidize their phones, and the Curve is no exception, customers will have to pay the full retail price for the device. The tab on this one comes to $449.99. On top of that, the service will cost $60 per month: the $50 unlimited plan plus $10 for BlackBerry Internet Service. (You can read more about BlackBerry at BlackBerry Geeks.)

Again, this will not be available in AWS markets, which are the ones Metro rolled out in 2009: Las Vegas and Philadelphia. This will also include New York and Boston, which will launch this year.
