MetroPCS ready to become sixth largest carrier
posted by Joe on March 5th, 2009 - 11:00 am | MetroPCS
We learned last week that Tracfone is the nation’s fifth largest carrier. They moved into the spot when Alltel, which had previously been number five, became Verizon. I had previously seen US Cellular as the sixth largest carrier, but apparently Tracfone passed them. They might get passed again, this time by MetroPCS. A Cellular News report notes that Metro is closing the gap by adding far, far more customers than US Cellular: 520,000 to 97,000 in the fourth quarter 2008. Metro currently has 5.37 million subscribers and US Cellular has 6.2 million. It shouldn’t be long before Metro moves into the sixth spot.

I love to see growth! Now if Metro and Leap merge, where would that put them?
I am, sometimes, surprised by how many fees and other “issues” that customers will tolerate. If anyone has the inclination to share their thoughts/reviews, please check out:
