MetroPCS Offers Unlimited LTE for $50

The T-Mobile prepaid brand MetroPCS has unveiled a new rate plan today that definitely pushes up the bar a for other MVNOs and prepaid carriers. Now for a limited amount of time, new customers can get unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE data for $50, instead of the normal $60. The terms and conditions for the plan state that the data will not be throttled, but that they reserve the right to stop data service for ‘abnormal usage.’ This promotion is scheduled to end on April 5, 2015. Aside from the ‘abnormal usage’ clause, there is one other catch to this otherwise pretty sweet promotion: the deal cannot be used with a BYOD phone and is only compatible with specific phone models. These models must be purchased from MetroPCS and activated prior to April 5 in order to get the promotional rate, which should continue after the promotion ends. The current eligible phone list includes GSM versions of the following phones:
  • Samsung Galaxy Avant
  • Samsung Galaxy Light
  • Samsung Galaxy MEGA
  • Samsung Galaxy S III
  • Samsung Galaxy S 4
  • Samsung Galaxy S 5
  • LG Optimus F3
  • LG Optimus F6
  • Kyocera Hydro XTRM
  • Huawei Vitria
  • ZTE ZMAX
Of course, 4G coverage must be available in your area in order to take advantage of those speeds. You can check the coverage map here. In addition to this promotional offer, MetroPCS has also made a few changes to their normal rate plans, namely by increasing the data for two of their monthly prepaid plans. Effectively immediately, the $40 plan now includes 2 GB of high speed data (formerly 1 GB) and the $50 plan includes 4 GB of data (formerly 3 GB). Both plans still include unlimited talk and text.]]>
