MetroPCS expands into Philadelphia

It looks like the push into the Northeast by MetroPCS has begun. The carrier is now offering service in the greater Philadelphia area. This will be their third AWS market, following Las Vegas and Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana, and their 11th market over all.

The linked article mentions that Metro will unlock other carriers’ phones on the network as part of their MetroFlash program. however, all accounts I’ve heard say that this is not available in AWS markets. Can a Metro customer clear this up for me? Well, that is, someone we haven’t heard from yet.

Philadelphia currently has six MetroPCS company-owned outlets, with more planned before the end of the year. In addition, there are 132 authorized retailers in the area.
