MetroPCS adds, but doesn’t beat last year

Earlier today we reported on Cricket‘s third quarter results, which included a big increase over last year even if the net total was small. Now we learn of MetroPCS‘s results, which are quite the opposite. They added more customers than Cricket, 64,384 to 10,000. But they failed to reach their additions from the third quarter of 2010, 223,249. They also experienced a higher churn rate, 4.5 percent, up from 3.8 percent last year. It appears that the companies experienced a reversal of fortunes in the past quarter, though MetroPCS, with its 4G LTE network, could attract more customers in the fourth quarter.
