Cartoon Network, kajeet reach mobile content deal
posted by Joe on May 23rd, 2008 - 7:30 am | kajeet
A little bit of lighthearted news for your Friday morning. Cartoon Network has announced a deal with prepaid carrier kajeet to deliver content to subscribers of the tween prepaid cell company. Some of the available titles will be Ben 10: Alien Force, Chowder, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, The Powerpuff Girls. Unfortunately, it appears that hits like Metalocalypse and Aqua Teen Hunger Force won’t be hitting the service, aimed at kids aged eight through roughly 14. (I’m kidding about those two shows, though. No way Adult Swim content gets broadcasted to kajeet customers.)
“As the only cell phone service focused on super-serving kids, it makes perfect sense for us to join forces with Cartoon Network,” said Daniel Neal, CEO and founder of kajeet. “We think it’s important to offer kids mobile content that they love and which reflects their varied interests. Cartoon Network helps us with that goal.”
The deal calls for ringtones, wallpaper, and other multimedia from Cartoon network. Apparently, streaming video is not in the works. Which is a shame, because that could really draw some subscribers. But there are some drawbacks to being an MVNO. Limited airwaves are among them. But it’s a good sign moving forward for kajeet.
