FAQ: How to Download the Amazon App Store

It continually amazes me how many people are completely unaware that Amazon, in addition to having plenty of physical goods for sale, offers apps for Android phones to download. In fact, the company hosts a free app every day and is how I gained several of my favorite apps (and plenty of apps I never use). Of course, because Amazon’s app store is in direct competition with Google’s Google Play users have to fiddle with some security settings in order to download the Amazon App Store. Google makes it sound pretty scary, but I haven’t ever had any problem with these apps, so don’t let it scare you off! Unfortunately, Amazon apps are not available for iPhones. Anyway, here are the steps for getting it for your Android:

Change your security settings

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap on Security
  3. Scroll down and check the box next to Unknown Sources. There will be a warning box that pops up saying that downloading random apps is dangerous. Click Ok.

Download the App Store

  1. Click on this link to download amazon app store QR OR Scan the QR code to the right:
  2. When the download is complete, swipe your notifications down and tap the download fine. It should be called AmazonApps-release.apk
  3. Tap Install
  4. Open and log in
It’s worth noting that before you actually purchase any apps from the Amazon Store, I recommend you double check to see if the app is priced lower on Google Play, as many apps are. However, the free app of the day really is a fantastic deal that can’t be beat.]]>
