7 Arguments to Convert Friends to Prepaid

If you’re reading this, then you probably have already discovered the awesomeness that is prepaid phone plans. They’re cheaper, they’re more verstaile, they have WAY better customer service (sometimes) and overall they’re just better. So, why don’t more people have prepaid phones? I have no idea. Probably because of all of the prepaid phone misconceptions floating about. So, if you’re looking to convert a contract-loving friend to prepaid, here are some great arguments to help make the switch easier. 1. It costs way less. No, seriously.

On average, prepaid plans cost anywhere from $20 – $50 less per month, depending on the plan, carrier and number of lines that you have. Check out and example of how much you could save with prepaid.

2. I have the same plan (maybe a better one).

A lot of times, you can actually find the same or similar plans on prepaid as postpaid. In fact, I’ve found that prepaid carriers actually offer more plan options to suit your needs, so you’re only paying for exactly what you use. Why pay for 6 GB of data when you only need 3 GB? Yeah, I don’t know either.

3. I get the same coverage as you do.

Ok, so this one is a little tricky because only some prepaid carriers/MVNOs offer partner roaming. So that means that depending on where you live, you might actually get worse coverage in some areas with prepaid, especially if your carrier doesn’t have a native network there.

4. Some carriers have family plans and discounts too

Some MVNOs have great discounts for family lines, like 5 lines for $100, while othrs only offer individual plans. But even if they only offer individual plans, they’re cheap enough that it probably evens out anyway, right?

5. With prepaid, you can control how much you pay, and switch if the service sucks.

There’s nothing like the freedom of changing things up month-to-month as you need it. Going to be travelling and need more data? No problem. Suddenly have no service at your new work? Easy fix. The freedom afforded is pretty nice compared to being stuck with a carrier for two years, rain or shine.

6. Not all the phones are lame. See?

Ok, so this really only works if you HAVE a nice phone. But, regardless, what most people don’t realize is that you can actually activate just about any phone on a prepaid plan. The catch is that you have to pay for the phone up front, but then the phone is 100% yours. There are also many different avenues to buying prepaid phones.

7. Your “free” phone wasn’t actually free anyway.

Sure, if you buy an iPhone 6 without a contract you can expect to pay full retail—around $700. But, while the upfront cost of that phone is less on contract, you’re actually paying MORE for the device over the course of the two years. It evens out, I promise, especially when combined with the cheaper contract.

See? Prepaid plans are SO much simpler. And making the switch isn’t as difficult as it sounds either, so there’s really no excuse. Click here for tips on finding the perfect wireless carrier or check out our MVNO lists for T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon and Sprint to get started!]]>
