Leap gains in Q4, but mostly from Pocket Communications

Leap Wireless, parent of Cricket, announced its fourth quarter 2010 results yesterday, and in terms of total subscribers added it beat out rival MetroPCS. The company added 430,000 net subscribers, giving it 5.52 million total. MetroPCS added fewer than that, but Cricket got a big boost from its acquisition of Pocket Communications, which netted it 323,000 subscribers. In terms of Leap’s breakdown, they added a net 155,000 cell phone subscribers, while they lost 48,000 broadband subscribers. Their churn was at a manageable four percent. This probably wasn’t the best quarter for Leap, but they are looking forward to bigger things in 2011.
