Cricket ready with $40/month unlimited prepaid broadband
posted by Joe on September 15th, 2008 - 7:30 am | Cricket
Earlier this year, Leap Wireless announced that Cricket would begin carrying unlimited broadband plans. They started at $35 for customers of the Cricket voice service. Now we’re seeing a larger offering. Via PC Mag, we hear that Cricket is now offering unlimited — yes, truly unlimited — wireless broadband access for $40 per month. Like Cricket’s voice services, the wireless broadband access will come without a credit check or a contract. The offering is intended as a primary Internet access medium.
“There is nobody in the market providing wireless broadband to a low-income customer with no contract,” said Cricket VP of product marketing Jeff Toig. “These are people under $50k household income, with no broadband Internet in their homes. This becomes their alternative to DSL or cable.”
Cricket wireless broadband is currently available in the markets Leap rolled out earlier this year: Texas, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, and Las Vegas. It will expand to Cricket’s other markets by the end of the year.

I was excited to see Cricket enter the prepaid broadband business. I think there’s a huge potential for this service, and I’m interested to see even more competition as time goes one. Hopefully their model is profitable and they have a means to manage potential abusers.
Cheers,

Thanks to Cricket my family and I have broadband wireless Internet during our transition. I am an online college student who is “in-between” homes right now so Cricket’s wireless Internet is a great alternative and help to me.

Low income? I make 100k a year and still don’t see the value of “electronic service bundles” at 1200 per year. I can buy a car for that. I deleted my land line, and I have internet at work. I’m willing to do wireless for 40 per month, but no every month.
