Cricket Adds Unlimited Calls/Texts to Mexico

As you might recall, AT&T purchased the Mexican company lusacell earlier this year and it appears that the first benefits of this merger are trickling down to the prepaid market even sooner than anticipated. Starting today, some Cricket Wireless customers will see unlimited services to Mexico added to their plans at no additional cost.  Plans that are expected to get this benefit include the Smart and Pro plans which are priced at $50 and $60 respectively. Here are the international offerings that will be included for free:
  • Unlimited landline and mobile-to-mobile calling to Mexico
  • Unlimited text, video and picture messaging to Mexico
In addition, the limited-time Advanced plan will gain unlimited international texting to 35 countries. Unfortunately, roaming while in Mexico is not supported. However, customers can add Mexico roaming for an additional $10 per month. Cricket’s International Extra add-on package is still available and costs $15 for unlimited international landline calling and messaging to 35 countries plus 1,000 mobile-to-mobile minutes for select locations. The addition of free unlimited calling to Mexico is pretty impressive and I think this will really help put Cricket Wireless on the map. I certainly can’t think of any other companies that offer this kind of incentive, so it will be interesting to see how and if other companies work to compete with this awesome deal.
