Consumers cutting back on cell phone use
posted by Joe on October 30th, 2008 - 6:51 am | Consumer Issues
With the economy in a state of uncertainty, many individuals and families are cutting back on costs. As we’ve talked about previously, one place where they can save monthly is on the cell phone bill. Of course, since cell phones have become ingrained in our daily lives, it’s tough to cut them out completely. Yes, this is to say that prepaid can be a solution. A recent survey shows that 76 percent of cell phone users are planning to immediately cut back. If you’re among them, you can find a deal from one of our featured pay as you go phone providers.
Marin Perez, writer for InformationWeek, is taking this advice:
Has the economic woes made you change your cell phone habits? A few months ago, I realized I was tired of paying $90 a month for a data plan and voice services. I switched to the local MetroPCS and now have unlimited voice and texts for half that price. My phone can’t do as many cool things, and the out-of-area coverage is atrocious, but I’m not missing my personal smartphone that much.
Yes, he laments, there are tons of cool phones that have just come out or will come out soon. The savings, though, are the difference. Yes, it’s nice to have, say, a G1, but what’s more important, your cool phone or your wallet? Note that I’m not taking a side on the preferable answer.
