Boost upping unlimited price
posted by Joe on June 6th, 2008 - 7:36 am | Boost Mobile
While rival Cricket is busy adding new features to calling plans and adding a lower cost entry tier, Boost Mobile is raising its prices. Once available for 45, 50, or 55 dollars a month, depending on the features you want, Sprint Nextel, Boost’s parent company, has apparently decided that Boost Unlimited eats into their own Simply Everything deals, which offer unlimited features for $99 per month. The result is a fairly hefty spike in monthly rates.
The entry tier will be $50, which covers unlimited calling. Another $10 adds text messaging to the plan, and yet another $10 adds unlimited Web browsing. Boost Unlimited continues to service customers from their respective local calling areas. Leaving those areas will count as roaming, and not unlimited.
Usually, competition leads to lower prices. Or at least that’s the idea. With MetroPCS and Cricket going through large expansions this year, Boost could be setting themselves up for lost customers. Which wouldn’t be good, considering Boost Unlimited gained 343,000 subscribers last quarter, the only division of Sprint Nextel to show gains.
