Boost Mobile takes home prepaid cell phone award
posted by Joe on August 13th, 2009 - 7:30 am | Boost Mobile
TopTenREVIEWS.com, a site which rates various electronics and entertainment entities, has recently named Boost Mobile as its top prepaid service, earning the “Gold Award” in the field. Like J.D. Power and Associates, which ranked Boost third in prepaid, TopTen uses various criteria to determine the top service in each field. For prepaid phones these include monthly plans, usage based plans, features, fees, phone selection, and help & support. Boost did exceedingly well in every area except phone selection, though it was enough to narrowly edge out Cricket and Virgin Mobile.
Ranked one through 10, the list goes:
1. Boost Mobile
2. Cricket
3. Virgin Mobile
4. Net10
5. AT&T GoPhone
6. Verizon prepaid
7. T-Mobile
8. MetroPCS
9. US Cellular
10. Tracfone
Somehow, Net10 got three bars for help & support, while Tracfone got just two. They’re run by the same company, and there seem to be just as many complaints about each. Virgin, Verizon, T-Mobile, and MetroPCS were the only ones to get the full four bars for help & support.
This list ranks a bit differently than J.D. Powers, mainly in that Cricket is so high on TopTen. They dropped precipitously, along with MetroPCS, in J.D. Power’s review. Apparently, the weight in criteria made the difference, which calls into question the overall validity of these comparisons.
You can find the whole list here.

I would rather believe the JD Power ratings than TopTenReviews. My reasons: I’ve used both and I KNOW NET10 is superior to Boost in network quality and coverage. By far.
Second reason: Boost has just closed some of it’s retail outlets and is paying their dealers even less. See how THAT turns sour when they start losing customers.

I use Net10 and it’s great. I save so much money which is important since I’m a college student, and I get great nationwide coverage.

I’m really happy with my Net10 phone and the reception is great. The one time I had to call customer service, it was short and painless. Yeah!
