Boost gives away free gas in Hawaii
posted by Joe on March 12th, 2008 - 7:30 am | Boost Mobile
How much is gas costing you per gallon? And more importantly, what does this have to do with your mobile phone? Boost Mobile wants to make the connection (for some reason). So yesterday, from 6 to 9 a.m., they were giving away free gas at Lex Brodie’s Gas Station in Honolulu. This was to promote the newly-launched Boost Unlimited service in the state. When they finally offer Boost Unlimited in the NY/Metro area, I’m sure we won’t get such treatment. But it’s still neat that they were willing to pony up for gas for three hours.
The craziest part:
The promotion comes on a day when gas prices hit an all-time high nationally.
I’m not sure what the prices are like out in Hawaii, but the more I think about this, the more generous it seems. I can’t even fathom Boost’s bill from this.
“I live in Salt Lake and I haven’t my tank filled for a loooong time,” said Jessica Ortega, a University of Hawai’i student driving a large Chevrolet SUV. “It costs $80 or $90 at least to fill it up. When I heard about this I left at about 5 a.m. and got in line at at about 5:20, so it wasn’t that bad.”
The Boost Unlimited service was launched in Hawaii about two weeks ago, and runs $35 per month for — yes — unlimited calling from your home area. When you leave the area, calls are 15 cents per minute.
