Boost adds $1/day Chat plan
posted by Joe on February 8th, 2008 - 11:30 am | Boost Mobile
Boost Mobile isn’t doing so hot right now. Well, their traditional service, that is. Boost Unlimited continues to add subscribers at a rapid pace. Unfortunately, some of these are at the cost of their traditional prepaid service, which is divided into pay-as-you-go and hybrid plans. This week, Boost announced some enhancements to both. For $1 per day, you can pick up unlimited nights and unlimited mobile-to-mobile minutes on your traditional pay-as-you-go plan. The daytime rate then drops to 10 cents per minute.
This is actually a nice premium for a dollar a day. It’s similar to AT&T’s GoPhone plan, where you pay a dollar a day to reduce rates from 25 cents a minute to 10 cents a minute, and get unlimited mobile to mobile. Boost gives you the free night minutes, which AT&T doesn’t, but AT&T’s unlimited mobile-to-mobile plan is better, on account of them having some 60 million more subscribers.
Also announced by Boost is the reduction of its highest-end hybrid plan. Previously $70 for 600 minutes, it now drops to $60 for 600 minutes — or 10 cents a minute. I figure this move was pursuant to the other one. Why would someone pony up more than 10 cents a minute for a monthly plan when they can get that rate on pay-as-you-go?
(Yeah, there’s a bit more to it than that, but it still seems like one followed the other in the planning room.)
Nights start at 9 p.m. with the traditional pay-as-you-go plan. You can still pay another $1 a day for unlimited walkie-talkie.
